HELP TACHOMETER INSTALLATION!!! ON 95 CIVIC
I BOUGHT A CHEAP EBAY JDM SPORT SMOKY TINT TACHOMETER
AND THE THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE PRETTY BAD AND NOT VERY DESCRIPTIVE
THE WIRING ARE ALSO SHORT SO I'M PLANNING TO HOTWIRE THEM, BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT TO HOTWIRE THE WIRES TO SO PLEASE HELP ME OUT
AND IT'S A 12-VOLT NEGATIVE GROUND....
WIRING COLORS ARE
A-GREEN-DISTRIBUTOR OR ECU
B-BLACK-NEGATIVE GROUND 12V
C-RED-IGNITION OR ECU
ORANGE-BATTERY POSITIVE
I'LL GET UP THE PICTURE OF THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION ASAP

Re: HELP TACHOMETER INSTALLATION!!! ON 95 CIVIC
ok this is how it goes.. the green wire goes to a blue wire inside your engine bay..its located where the master cylinder and clutch resivor is. thats where it was on my civic. the red you can wire it to your fuse box under your dash.. you dont need the orange wire.. and obviously the black is ground..

Re: HELP TACHOMETER INSTALLATION!!! ON 95 CIVIC
All wires can be found at the fuse box (Assuming you don't want your tach to dim with the dimmer switch).
The signal wire is blue and runs to a plug just under the center of the fuse box. If you haven't already installed it, I can get you a pic of it. The power and illumination can be obtained through the "Option" ports and recommended it goes through an inline fuse. Ground would go to the metal bracing that is bolted into the kick panel
If you wanted it to dim with the lights ... you would simply run the illumination wire to the back of the dimmer switch to the wire that adjusts with the dimmer. One adjusts the ground and one adjusts the power ... make sure you tap the power side or the dimming effect will be reversed (Dash lights dim while gauge is bright and vice versa)

PIC ONE - red and white (constant and illumination) are ran into fuse panel below steering wheel. I wired them into the wipers (20) and back up light (10)
PIC TWO - wired into blue wire coming from distributor.
and you know how to do the ground.

Re: HELP TACHOMETER INSTALLATION!!! ON 95 CIVIC
No reason for the extra work of running the tach wire all the way into the motor bay at the distributor. And it's never a great idea hooking wires directly to the fuses. It works but if you get the wrong prong of the 2 on the fuse then you will be running an unfused source.
Here's the fuse box:
Here is the Pin in the plug labeled on the fuse pic (looking at the plug as you are in the fuse box pic. It's a Blue wire):
Using a wire with inline fuse in them. Connect the ignition and the illumination wires to the respective wires in the "Options" plugs. If they do not have any current wires in them (As the plugs labeled A & B do not) simply use a female spade terminal to connect it. (Nothing will connect to A & B. they are simply used to show Option ports look like without any plug/wire in them.
Ground wire goes to metal near the kick panel.
Edit: Sorry so small on the letters... they looked Huge in each pic until i actually posted haha)

Re: HELP TACHOMETER INSTALLATION!!! ON 95 CIVIC
What is the point of tapping into the signal out in the engine bay? The wire goes to the cluster...just splice into it there. It's a cleaner installation

Re: HELP TACHOMETER INSTALLATION!!! ON 95 CIVIC
When I did mine on my old civic, I ran it through the engine bay and just tucked it away so it was hidden. I don't know of any other way to do it.
When I got the civic I have now, I didn't want to use an aftermarket tach, so I went and bought a gauge cluster with a tach built in, it's so much better.
