Help with tach!
I just purchased a tach and was wondering if I should install it, or is it better to take it to a professional.
I am not smart when it comes to wiring but how would I do it if I tried.

it will be a piece of cake, just find out what wires go where and you will be set. the stripping and combining of wires is really easy. solder if you can, it is the best way to go i think.

okay well what side should I mount the tach on? And where should I mount it? it has screw holes but it really doesn't seem to fit anywhere very good. I also dont want the wires to show. Help please!!!!

Here's just something to think about.
You can buy a EX or SI gauge cluster that has the stock tach and it will be a direct replacement with your gauge cluster, and the tach will work with no wiring.
This way you have a tach, and you don't have to worry about wiring up an aftermarket tach, and drilling holes in your dash, and hiding wires.

ok well I have a system. can I just tap into my power wire from that? Also It does not really fit to well where is a good place to put it?

Here, connect these wires:
1. <FONT COLOR="green">Green</FONT> Tach wire splices to <FONT COLOR="blue">blue</FONT> wire behind cluster.
2. Black Tach wire goes to ground, usually a screw behind dash.
3. <FONT COLOR="red">Red</FONT> Tach wire splices to black with <FONT COLOR="yellow">yellow</FONT> stripe behind cluster or behind dash switches.
4. <FONT COLOR="white">White</FONT> Tach wires splices to black with <FONT COLOR="red">red</FONT> stripe behind cluster or behind dash switches.
I would prefer to mount on left side of dash since it will not be in the way. Mounting on the right side of dash will block a lot of view.

If it's one of those big 5" Monster Tachs...no matter where you place it, it's going to look "ghetto" in terms of "it's not supposed to be there". Unless you fabricate a panel to mount the gauge(s) on, it looks silly no matter where you place it. Especially on a Monster Tach.

Drill a hole into your dash for the wires to run through. Then just mount the tach over the hole with screws.

IMO, just run the wiring through the dash vents, keep it clean. No drilling holes just in case you ever want to remove it. Mount it in front of the dash vent. Use some 2-way adhesive tape. Strong stuff. Run a small bead of silicon aswell.
