help to remove a tranny

so i gotta replace the auto tranny in my 93 sol si, its got a d16z6 engine and a m24a tranny, in the honda intructions, they say that to get the half shafts out of the tranny, i need to undo the lower ball joint, [no problem] but my issue is that it also says that i need to undo the suspension strut from the strut fork, you know the fork dealy that goes on either side of the halfshaft, do i really have to get it apart? i dont think it will come apart, i would rather get the shaft to unplug from the tranny a different way, is there enough room to do it if i undo the balljoint, the tie rod end, and swing the knuckle out and upward? or no? who knows other ways of doing this? or is it known that to get the fork off of the strut, its not a problem at all? will it come apart?

there is a 14MM bolt holding that knuckle on the strut. There is a 17MM bolt that goes through it at the bottom with a nut, holding it onto the LCA. You undo these two bolts and pop it with a hammer a few times it should fall free where you can fish it out. I've seen the bottom bolts freeze with rust before, but you can still get the axle out of the tranny by undoing the entire LCA from the car, but you'll be screwed when it comes time to replace the axle.
