Default help putting axles back in on d16z6

when putting axles back in, shouldnt there be just a small gap between the axle and the tranny housing? it appears if it goes any further then it wouldnt be able to spin cuz it would be rubbing against the tranny housing. the gap im referring to is on both axles and is only big enough to put the end of a pry bar or flathead screwdriver in. i already put the rest of the suspension back together, but i just want to make sure before i drive it again.

if i remember correctly the gap is maybe 1/4 inch or so. it was just big enough for me to stick the small end of a chisle into. did u make sure that you have the locking clips on the end of the axle??? if they were missing maybe the axle would move too far into the tranny...

you'll know when they are all the way it because its a bitch pulling it out by hand. it takes a couple of tries. you cant really hear it click when your putting them in, but you can slightly hear when you snap it out with your flathead. and they wont fit flush to the transmission, depending on what company you used you will see a quarter inch of space or less. and dont use a hammer no need just hold the middle of the shaft and the side you want to go in on the actual joint and slam it in. like i said it will take several slams to get it to match up...
