Help please! TD-42U distributor in a D15B engine?
Hi everyone,
I am a complete and total noobie,
I usually live in New Zealand (and I'll be returning there in about 10 days). Before I go back, I need to get a replacement distributor for my NZ car. It is a Del-Sol with a D15B engine and what looks like it a TD-42U distributor. Does that seem right? I'm pretty sure my car is a VTi (V-TEC). But, I've found conflicting information about the D15B and V-TEC engines here in the US.
Now, this all might sound a little odd, but my car is a Japanese import. That is, it was used for 5 years in Japan before it was exported to New Zealand.
I'm kind of confused because, here in the US, the Del Sol is considered a Civic, while in NZ (and Japan?) it's considered a CRX. My Del Sol is a 1992 (I believe Del-Sols where available in US starting in 1993). And, like a mentioned earlier, all the conventional information seems to say that D15Bs are NOT V-TEC engines. But I have seen some 'unconventional' information that implies D15Bs ARE V-TECs, but only the newer models? (not 1992).
So, to sum up, my question is: will I be ok with a US acquired TD-42U distributor in a 1992 Japanese CRX Del-Sol that has a D15B engine that is supposed to be a V-Tec?
Oh... the chasis is an EG1
Cheers,
XYNZ
The really cool thing about my Del Sol is the Trans-Top. When I unlatch the roof and press a button, electric acutators open the the trunk lid straight upwards, then other actuators inside the lid extend a capture device that grabs the roof, pulls it into the trunk lid and then the lid closes. I understand that the Trans-Top was only available in Del-Sols sold in Japan. Whenever I use it in a crowded area, people stop to watch.
