Default help please....................................overheat ing simple question

my car is overheating when i stop at a light but when i start moving its cool down. i know it's my fan but it sometime come on. what should i check. could it be the antifreeze coolant. i have to refill it every two days and the only time it overheats is when there is no liquid. could that have something to do with it? i want to start doing work on that engine but i wanted to know how i would check to see if its low on coolant.

it seems to me from what you are saying if you have to refill your coolant every other day or so. you have a leak somewhere. i would recommed to pressure test the cooling system check for leaks and check thermostat and go from there.

I had this same exact problem. Mine was the headgasket. But, if that's not it then you should look for a leak. I just did a b18 swap and a day after I did the swap it started to overheat. Needless to say I was pissed since I just got done with this problem with my old motor. I looked under the hood and where the hose attaches near the block there was a pool of coolant. The hose clamp wasn't holdin it tight enough. Replaced it and its all good. Just start looking around at your hoses because that's where the obvious leaks would be. Also, replace the thermo, it's like $10 and takes all of 15 minutes to do.

your fan switch is located on the elbow next to your thermostat. But your problem is lack of coolant, check for leaks before you change anything
