Changing your oil would be a good start. Also, check for leaks anywhere.

Reading your CEL is a great path too.

If oil is clean and oil level is good, your oil pump could be going. But yes, check the CEL.

check your filter.

Unscrew your filter, and wipe down the spot where it contacts the block. You might not have a good enough seal. Check to see if you have the correct filter on there. Too large of one will do that.

If not then its your pressure sending unit and your oil pump

/\ Check your wire/connector on your oil pressure switch. Also how cold is it there, and what oil are you using? We have seen this happen (really cold here) when a cust uses like 10w 40 in their accord, and the light goes out once the oil warms.

good luck

my question is however, is it bad? the past 2 mornings it has been VERY cold, and when i go and start my car, the oil light stays on for about 1/2 seconds and goes off.

This worries me.

the oil light comes on when there is low oil pressure. However i had the same problem you had and it would only happen when i was low on oil. I really think that your problem is because your low on oil. IF thats not your problem then go to advance auto parts and by a new oil pressure sending unit ( $7) its really cheap. Try that out and if thats not the problem then it because your oil pump is going bad. There is nothing else it could be.

if your oil pump is going bad then most general mechanics charge like 200 bux in total to change a oil pump with a new one. If the problem is your oil pump i suggest you fix it right away!

If it's not electrical, and the oil level's OK, you're destroying your motor. When the light comes on, you should turn the car off and tow it to a repair shop 'cause if you drive it too far that way, you'll need a motor.

My teg does the same thing...
I changed out the sensor -- no help
Change the oil pump -- no help Wasted almost 3 bill for nothing.
I slap on a pressure gauge and use that instead of the light.

1st I would replace the sensor ( might want to check for connecting and wire )
2nd buy a pressure gauge
3rd change oil pump

im saying When its SUPER cold, the light stays on for about 1/2 second and then goes off, this is only when its super cold. Otherwise when i start it up when warm, its the 1st to go off, and no problems.

SO question is, is its just because its cold out? or could something be wrong? were talking -10 to around 0*f outside.

I doubt that low oil oil pressure for a few seconds on startup is a huge problem. I've used a boad with a diesel engine and it takes 30s for the oil pressure to come up to spec... completley normal. The low pressure is probably thick oil from the cold. As long as the light goes off within a few seconds I wouldn't worry about it.

if that doesnt work go to advance auto parts and buy a new oil pressure sending unit it only costs about 7 dollars.
