Help needed in finding Oil Leak...
I have an oil leak that seems to be coming from the side of my oil pan. I have a couple of pictures in hopes of someone telling me what it could be?

Any pictures illustrating this? Sorry, but it just doesn't really help me with your description. I'm not 'too' familiar with all the terms yet.

Re: Help needed in finding Oil Leak... (SAVIOVEGA)
I see... because I swapped oil pan recently and replaced the oil pan gasket with a brand new one... and just wondering if the gasket could have been misaligned at that particular area...
also, just how much of a PITA is it to get that seal out and how much more of a PITA it is to put a new on in? especially while the motor is in the car?

If you recently changed the oil pan gasket, then that's more likely the problem. I've changed several of those seals and I don't think it's such a big deal. I would get an oil seal remover . Try not to scratch or gouge the block when you remove it. Also, sometimes the seal will be really hard to get out because it's stuck. What I do is take a small screw and srew it into the seal, then pull on the screw with some plyers.

if i take out the pulley and examine the seal and there's no oil around it.. then the seal is okay right? which would eliminate the seal as being the problem?

Re: Help needed in finding Oil Leak... (SAVIOVEGA)
when that started happening to my 96 civic cx, i thought it was the oil pan gasket but wasn't, turned out to be the crankshaft seal. i just replaced the cam, crank seals and a new timing belt since the one in there got soaked with oil.
everything fine, not a drip of oil after 10k.
hope this helps!

The seal itself is a piece of cake. The hard part is getting the crank pulley bolt off. Do you have access to air tools?

How about you clean the area up really good with a degreaser and shop rags, then take her for a short spin and take a look for yourself...Although I also think It might be your seal.

unfortunately no air tools

Done that, and since the seal and oil pan gasket are on the same side... even when the trace of oil leak shows again it can still be either since it runs over both.

Not true...I did it with a foot on the brakes and a 3 foot breaker bar.

Re: Help needed in finding Oil Leak... (fms1day)
It could still be the oilpan gasket. If the oilpan was over torcked you could have crushed the gasket. It looks like in a couple of the pics that the gasket is squishing out a little to much. If its not tight enouph then well you know. I would first change the oilpan gasket, and make sure that you follow specs. It's cheaper and easier than tha crank seal. I know you said it was just changed, which is why I said that it could hve been tightened too much. Did you change it when you had your oil feed and return lines added for the turbo. I read your other thread.
