Quick rotor screw solutions (Need help ASAP!)
One wheels off in my garage right now along with the caliper... Can't get the damn rotor screws off. I'm startin to strip em. Tried WD-40 since that's all I have in the garage and tried using a rubber mallet and pound around the rotor a bit to try to loosen it up. Still won't budge. I just keep slowly slowly strippin the screws.
I literally have no money to buy an impact driver or rent one either lol. Any quick solutions? I literally soaked the 2 screws in WD-40 (sprayed for like 15 seconds soaking em). They soaked for about 30 minutes before I tried unscrewing em again too.
Anything you guys recommend? And no I don't want to drill them or no I don't have a welder or any of that. Just would like to remove and reuse.

Well the problem is I don't have money or a drill lol. So even if I did drill em out, I'd have to wait like 5/6 hours before I can ask the parents for a few bucks to go buy new screws.
Was hoping to be able to salvage the screws.

It's the only thing I've found that's reliable. I've killed enough screws that it's worth the money, even if you have to beg for it

what I did was take a drill, and drill them long enough for the screw to break loose.
If you soak them in WD of pblaster, then take a drill and drill the crap out of those screws, they should budge. Just reverse the drill direction from time to time and do small, short blasts. This will also heat the screw up.
This is the only way, since a dremel will end up damaging the rotor.
new screws at honda are 2.89 for a pack of 2, but you really dont need them. However looking at the way they connect the rotor to the hub, i wouild actually make sure they stay on there, since if you wheel bearing goes, the only thing really holding your wheel on there is the caliper/bracket/rotor/2screws
[edit] sorry didnt see you dont have a drill.
then i dont know, buy an impact driver and then return it? hit up walmart, buy a drill then return it? technically you really dont need those screws, they're just on there to hold the rotors on when in the assembly line.

Like I said, I really don't want to drill them. Like...really don't. Besides, I don't have a drill or know anyone around that could lend me one.
And the thing is, I don't have $20 for an impact driver. Literally I don't. I have a few bucks in my pocket and less then 20 cents in my bank.
Thanks anyways guys... I'll just put it back together and wait for a buddy to get off work and borrow his impact driver later tonight lol.

You really don't need to have those screws in there. If you get them removed I wouldn't even bother replacing them.

Yah the screws are just from the factory to hold them in place as they are putting the car back together. In reality the lugs hold the rotors on.

Something else you could try is to take a dremel, with a metal cutting wheel, and make the slots on the screw deeper and longer, you will cut into the rotor by the screw a little bit. This way you can get the screwdriver in deeper and have more metal on the outer part to help reduce the possibility of stripping it.
I know you said that you don't have money so hopefully you have one or knows someone that does.

Then sell your car so you can afford the impact screwdriver FTW... seriously, how can you afford to drive the thing with gas prices the way they are and not be able to buy a cheap tool?

Actually, the Craftsman tool I linked to is less than a tank of gas in my EJ1, and less than a good pizza. I'm sure you can find the money somewhere.

Re: (dpaton)
Just take a screwdriver bit and put it on the head of the screw. Put something over top of the bit, and hit it with a hammer to set it in.... this theoretically should "break" the screw loose. Then just unscrew it.
Dont say that its a dumb idea. It works, and especially in this situation where the money isnt available for other tools. When I first did the brakes on my EJ6, it was all I had.
Hopefully this will help you get it out.
Good luck.

this is what i did at work if the screw is not to strip get two ball pin hammers and put the round side of the the hammer on the center of screw take the other and wack the flat side of the hammer. Make sure you are centerd and it should break the screw loose.

Re: (pdiggitydogg)
just find any way to break the screw.
you dont have any neighbor that would have a drill you could borrow?
those screws are useless, I never put mine back in.
