Default help with my cooling problem!

when you redline. over heats about a minute later, and made the fan switch keep going bad. got sick of it, hardwired the fan. still over heats when you "get on it"

changed the thermostat today, re-filled the coolant. still over heats when you "get on it" WTF is wrong with my car? thanks.

Yeah, could be a water lock problem or calcium in the radiator. I swapped my rad. and haven't had a problem since.

well if i dont get on it at all. doesnt over heat. so how the hell would i know if it is fixed? its not like i go rag it out all the time.. i just know that it will start to over heat. so right before i get to my destination. ill go through a gear. and by the time it starts to rise in temp. im where i need to be and turn it off...

i bought a "failsafe" thermostat today. and the coolant mixture ive been putting in comes from my work in a pump that automatically mixes it 50/50.

havent had the problem until i went to the track and experienced extreme wheel hop in 1st.

i also just put a different relay in it from a friends civic which shouldnt matter with the fan hardwired.. and still doing it.

Sounds to me like your radiator is partially clogged. It can flow enough at normal driving to flow what you need, but when getting on it it can't. Just my .02.

its either your radiator or your water pump.

ok. well where is the bleeder nutt on a d16y7 ? and after you drive it. the hoses are real stiff from pressure. REAL stiff.

and you can shake the lower hose and hear coolant slushing around. so im guessing there is a huge air bubble i just cant get out.

even after i come back, let it cool down, drive normal. still over heat until i release all that pressure. any tips to get all the air out. other than cranking it w/o the cap on and squeezing the hoses, and having the heat wide open? this is really getting old fast

ok. well after taking the radiator off. looked clean.. not clogged. checked the hoses. drilled a hole in the top of the thermostat to let the air flow through and come out easier. got it a lot better than it was before.. both hoses hott. no more sloshing.. pretty sure the air is out. driveing around. beating it a bit in the cold rain.. just to test and see if it is fixed.. takes awhile. but it finally over heats again?

could i have a blown head maybe? no water in the oil, no oil in the water... no leaks anywhere..

HELP!

i had a turbo d16y8 before and it was overheating, i had a blown head gasket, take your rad cap off and start the car, after it warms up, if it bubbles even a little bit, your gasket might be blown, just my $.02

when the gasket was blown. did it still drive normal until you got on it? and did you have any leaks b/c of it? water in oil...etc. thanks.

i think ill change my timing belt and water pump this weekend. and while im at it, change the head gasket and instal it with copper spray, along with my block gaurd. TIA

After you drive your car and stop, how is the overflow bottle? Is it filling all the way up? Also let your car warm up, rev it while the cap is off the overflow and check for any bubbles coming through there. It sounds like it might be a blown head gasket, and you can have a blown head gasket with out any fluids mixing noticably as well as not seeing any smoke.

EDIT> just saw you said you weqre going to be doing a head gasket anyway. It would be a good idea to take your head to a machine shop and have them check and mill it so you don't have a leak and blow another head gasket if that is your problem.

well, the over flow fills all the way when it starts to over heat. and i havent noticed a lot of smoke or fumes. i have experienced the boost running higher though? had the actuator arm set at 7.35, and after the day at the track when it started the over heating issue, its been at 10, except when cold i guess? after driving about 8 minutes this morning went through 2nd a little and when i looked at the gauge it went to almost 15. so something isnt right. i dont know of any local machine shops. nor do i have the $. so as bad as it sucks. ill just have to change it, use some copper spray. and hope it works.

does anybody know if a d16y8 head gasket works on the d16y7? (y7 head and block)

You don't happen to have one of those goofy aftermarket radiator caps on the car, do you?

that would be a negative... stock honda... and the cap is fine. lets the coolant into the tank when it gets too hott, or too much pressure..

going on the tiny black carbon floating in the coolant.. and after testing the hyrdo carbon with an inspection machine to the radiator... running 30PPM at idle, and almost 300PPM when i quick reved to 5k. so yea. i am going to say safe bet it is the HG

hahahah.. i hear ya man.... check for tiny black spots floating in your coolant. or go to an inspection shop and ask if they will use their emmisions sniffer to test the HC level of your radiator

you might have a blown HG as well. i think it would be a good excuse for the sudden increase in boost too...
