Default HELP MY CAR WONT START!

ive got a 95 hatch dx 5spd. It ran fine and then i parked it up for a week cause im trying to sell it and now i go to start it cause some one is gonna check it out tomorrow and it wont start. All the lights and cd player comes on, and the car turns over when you turn the key but it never comes to life and starts up. you just get this chugging noise as the engine tries to start.

the car has like 230k miles but it drives/drove great, has new battery, spark plugs and wires...

please if there is anything i can check or do to eliminate what could be wrong please let em know. thanks

no check engine light. could it be the starter? the car IS turning over (making the chugging noise like it wants to start but just doesn't) could that be from the starter? cause ive had slow starts before in the past even with the new battery.

also how do i check and see if im getting a spark?

pull out a plug wire and put a screw driver in there close to touching the piece on the inside of the plug then put it near a ground/bolt

it sounds like your ignition coil inside of your distributor

its like 7 bolts, including the distrubtor cap and rotor.

You stick the screw driver int the center against the top of the plug without touching the sides then hold it close to the ground wire on the block of your engine and you should see a spark. or just unplug it and hold the wire whi,le turning over the motor if you feel the jolt that cylinder is getting spark.... Thats the easy painful way and how i do it.

i know its a been a few days but i pulled a wire off and put a screw drive close to it when turning the car over and yes a spark arched to the screwdriver ( and hurt lol ). so i guess the distributor is working. i only tested one wire partly cause someone told me that if one is working they are all working and partly cause it hurts. is it true that if one is working they are all working? and if i need to keep testing how can i do it without hurting myself? thanks

Well is the buzz noise quite or does it get louder ever time you try to crank it? If so, Your fuel pump could've craped out....When was the last time you checked your fuel pump? Try diagnose or maybe change ur fuel pump dude...........

fuel pump i think is fine. it doesn't sound odd or has it gotten louder with each attempt.

since the car was fine before i parked and it left it for a week what could go wrong while not moving at all? i thought for sure it was the distributor but im getting spark.

intuition makes me want to say it's fuel related. could be spark as well though.

Well if one does work they all should work. it has a distrubtor(however you spell that ****). Unless the other contacts are corroded and that one isnt???but the chances of that are pretty low. You can usually rent stuff from your local autozone. I would try fuel pressure gauge and check the pressure... and vacuum leaks... Pull the spark plugs what do they look like? turn the motor over with the plugs out can you smell fuel?? turn the motor over does if like it spinning fast. take off the oil cap see if the cam is spinning.. when was the last time the timing spelt was serviced.. so i guess thats all i got today.. Is that motor coil on plug. Is there oil in the wires if soo
