Default Help! My car is Overheating!!

I have a 93 civic and its been overheating for a couple of days now. when it first started it would go to about the 3/4 mark and back down to normal. i thought it might have been the thermastat so i changed it. well today it touched the red line i dont think there is any air in the system, the bottom and top raditor hose seem warm and under pressure and the fan comes on. the air from the fan is cool though.... whats going on? could my car actually not be running hot and the sending unit be defective? thanks for the help

could be a blown headgasket

any smoke coming out of the exhaust(white)

also when the car cools down are you losing coolant

when you gauge read HOT use a thermo/ray gun and check the actual temp of the top and bottom of the radiator hose should be 15-20 degree difference and the water neck if its low such as 180-190 u are fine it's the sending unit thats defective happen to mine car before.

from what i can tell im not losing any coolant. no smoke, no milky oil or anything like that. tomorrow im going to do a leak down test to see if that might be it. but i did check the coolant and it was full. i thought it might have had air in the system so i did bleed it (i dont know how successful that might have been).

Question: if you take off the raditor cap and let it warm up should you be able to see fluid moving around? i couldnt really tell so i got it to about 3k rpm and a little water shot out

Alright, i think it kinda fixed itself. i took it to a shop today to see if they had any imput and he said it was probably just the sender. it flows good and the fan works. i messed with the sending wire a little and now it seems to work fine now. im planning on getting some autometer gauges pretty soon. thanks for the imput everyone. oh and let me know if you have any gauges for sale

to bleed your coolant lines just run your car with the cap off for a while
ull see bubbles come out occassionally

when bleeding while filling theres a 10mm nut u unscrew while fill with coolent right by the thermostat.. unscrew it pout coolant until it stops bubbling.. top up the rad, leave cap off and run till the bubbles stop coming like before

easy stuff, but yeah basically if ur not losing coolant, its proly a sending unit.. could be a bad mix of antifreeze too
