im deciding on what motor to get. the motor is goin into a 97 coupe dx.

is it better to start off having an engine that rev's crazy high like the b16 but have like no tourque but vtec or to have an engine with decent tourqe in stock form like the b18b but no vtec and cant rev as high? i know the b16 will be a bitch to get decent tourque numbers but the tranny is great and the b18 lacks horsepower and has a shitty tranny which would be better in the long run?
im just looking for a good all around motor that will be fun to drive and will be quick off the line and will beat most cars on the road.i dont want to be disspaointed as soon as i swap one of them and will be begging for more power right away. i will be modding the motor down the road and just wanted to see wich is better to start off with. my budget is around 2500 by the way and swaping by myself for the experince.
oh and what is more noticeable in an engine tourqe or horsepower. which is more important to have to be decently fast.
