Help!! Mini me swap problems!!!
Hey guys,
I just recently bought a 98 civic hatch, 5 speed, with a d16y7 with a massive rod knock. So I went and picked myself up a d16y7 with a d16y8 head and intake and a ex tranny.
Something is very wrong though!! I got the new tranny and motor in, everything wired in, and I did the 2 wire iacv conversion. The only thing I haven't done yet is put in the new p2p ecu and wire in vetc.
I got everything in and started the engine, and it runs like crap! It just struggles to idle and surges like crazy. Once you even touch the throttle, it dies. I've check for spark, its all good. I have the car timed right and everything. I did a compression check and each cylinder was near 180, give or take a few lbs. all the vacuum lines are in and so are my sensors. I also have plenty of fuel!
What is wrong with this thing?! I can't figure it out! Thanks.

^That would not cause what he is describing....for the crap idle have you checked you TC tension and idle screw/rotor screw. Cleaned you'r IACV right. getting any codes ?

I haven't scanned the car yet, that is next on the list. Even is my idle screw was off, wouldn't it stay running when I revved it up? Sorry, this is my first swap, but what is tc tension? I cleaned my iacv, I even tired using a different one.

i don't know the stock d series TB's that well. but here is a pic: number one is the idle screw number 2 is where(be hind that mount point) the rotor/pully screw is. worry more about the rotor screw then the other one.
as for TC=throttle cable

So the throttle body is what is causing my car to not run? I've checked about everything that is possible on the car, except for the throttle body, lol.

Alright, as soon as the new ecu comes in the mail I will give that a try. I will take a look at the TB too. Thanks guys for the help! Hopefully I can get this worked out!
So if I don't have the ecu swapped, my iacv will not work, and that is enough to screw with how it runs? Shouldn't it be running better than what it is?!

Re: Help!! Mini me swap problems!!!
There's probably more wrong with it than the IACV, but that is part of your problem. If it dies as soon as you try to give it gas there's a good chance the MAP and TPS connectors are switched.

Re: Help!! Mini me swap problems!!!
Im agreeing with a switched MAP and TPS.
If you can get it on a scanner and read whatever codes its throwing it can make diagnosing it 10000x easier.

Alright thanks for all the help. My new ecu should be here in a couple days and I will swap that and the sensors around and go from there.

Re: Help!! Mini me swap problems!!!
Alright, I finally got my new ecu today! Got it plugged in, the car definitely runs better, but still isn't close to being right! I also had a chance to scan the car and these are the codes that came up:
P0108
P0122
P0113 - I forgot to plug this one in! Oops.
P1508
P1259 - still have to hook vtec up!
P0141 - I am missing the plug for the 2nd o2 sensor and I'm workin on getting that, so that's probably explains that.
But the remaining codes, I'm not sure how to solve them! I had the map and tps switched, but I switched them before I scanned it.
Also, how do I know which connector is for the 1st o2 sensor and which one is for the 2nd?
Thanks for all of the help.

Re: Help!! Mini me swap problems!!!
Hey guys.
Got my iacv problem fixed and I replaced the map sensor. The car runs and idles way better, but it still bogs down and chokes itself out when you even touch the throttle.
I was spraying a little carb cleaner around the intake and tb and I noticed the tb has a leak. Could that be a huge part of this whole problem? Lol

Re: Help!! Mini me swap problems!!!
Yes. Any vacuum leak will cause an issue. Its best that you clear your codes and re-scan the vehicle after you replaced the map. If you swapped the plugs and it threw a code for map, the plugs were probably hooked up correctly from the start.
Buy, yes replace the TB gasket, or manifold gasket, whichever is leaking or both. Its possible that the TB itself is leaking, so double check.
