Help me identify D-series tranny...
I can't tell what tranny I have. I referenced Mista Bone's tranny page...
http://home.cinci.rr.com/mistab0ne/tranny.html
"You can tell a DX/CX/VX tranny from a EX/Si by numbers cast into the housing. Just above the filler plug is a set of numbers.
P20/A000 is for DX/CX/VX
P20/B000 is for EX/Si"
Mine says... P20 - 2
If it helps it also has a white label reading... S20-1292834
Also has a stamp reading... Y4C...heres a pic...
Anyone know what tranny I have?
EDIT:
Theres a white 3-digit sticker with black lettering near the upper-passenger side tranny mount that matches the stamp...
Girlfriend's 94 DX sedan ... C5F stamp/sticker - P20 - 5
Friend's 93 DX sedan ... C5B stamp/sticker - xxx - x
Friend's 95 EX coupe ... Y4F stamp/sticker - P20 - 4
This is just speculation but maybe the 1st stamped number means...
Y=EX/Si tranny
C=DX
I'm going to check out some more stock civic trannies but feel free to let me know what yours says to see if my presumed pattern is correct.

Sounds like an odd-ball serial # off a newer Civic...I had a funny serial # when I pieced together a D16Z6/Y8.
Sorry I cannot be of more assistance, I've been out of the groove for a while.

To my understanding, pre-1996 trannies did not come with a VIN on them, otherwise I would have.

y4g is the ex/si tranny. its what I had...for the 94+ civic, im pretty shure.
j8f is the CX tranny code....Im not totally shure about any of thre others.
edit...
it is possible a early (92-93,94) EX/Si tranny. Only way to for shure find out is drive it and see how the gears are.
On my Si tranny when I took it to 7200 rpm and shifted, form 1st gear it would drop right on 4800 (vtec x-over) from 1st to 2nd.
edit:
wheres spade?

Show me a pic of where a VIN is listed on a 92-95 civic transmission, then I'll know where to look on mine.

Good to have you back. Things have changed and changed in the year you've been gone.
