help ME decide. B16 or D16
hello everyone.
let me start by saying that i'm living in Israel.
my goal was a 400hp b16 (rods\pistons\stock sleeves)
so this is the deal.
i have a b16a2 engine that i got from a junkyard two years ago. meanwhile.... i was looking for a tranny in my country and i didnt found anything. so my last option is to import a tranny from the US to israel. and thats pricy... lets say 350 for tranny, extra 250-300 for shipping and a extra 200 for f*king taxes and chit.
i cant allow myself to "waste" 900 on a tranny right now.
my other option is to sell the B16A2 for a fair amount of money (cause its rare here), and get a D16Z6\Y8\A9 and ill have change for pistons and rod's. as for the tranny. i got a d-serise engine in my car right now so its "free"
should i go with the D or stick with the B?

well if your goal is 400 whp then your going to spend at least 2x then money on a D than you would for a B, so id say build up the B and use the D as your Daily untill you get the B finished

Why would you arbitrarily pick 400hp as your goal? FF Civic/Acuras stop being fun around 230hp (and it's not that hard to get a D to that goal). Above that, forget about street driving, forget about reliability. And plan on just funneling your entire income into the car and still end up not having it run right. Every single thing in the car will need to be upgraded to handle the power. You are so much better off starting with a 4WD car that already makes 200+hp stock.
The D is a great engine to have a lot of fun with, but if your goal is 400hp, you'll need to go with one of the twin cam motors.
What I've found with my own personal experience and from learning from the experience of others and projects that I have witnessed, is that you should shoot for around 160-200whp. Keep the internals stock (other than the cam, headgasket, and head studs). You will have so much fun with that car as your daily driver/weekend racer. If you're trying to be the fastest there is on the drag strip, that's a never ending race that you will never win unless you have unlimited funds, time, and you're much smarter than the average person. Big budget drag racing is such a waste of a cheap production car that came with double wishbone front and rear suspension.

Dont see tha D putting out that much w/ a reasonable amount $ put in it. I was rocking a D15 y8 head 50 wet shot and did pretty good. Ran a yr untill tha day I hit with a 50 shot and tha Zex Stage 3 cam I had just put in it!!! Deff. worth it tho! Get tha B serie and later on build LS bottom end.
2 yrs of givin tha d series pure hell, 1yr on Nitrous
Week shaving down the pistons so the valves would clear,
Blowing tha dam thing up at 130 MPH for tha 1st time w Nitrous nd Cam,
IT WAS AWSOME!!!! Every Rod was gone w/ 11 holes in the block!!!!
