HELP: Left for a week to Chi-town and after car surges
Hi Guys,
to get questions ot of the way: 96 Del Sol D16y7 STOCK but Exhaust
Before I left a week ago for Chicago vacation everything run perfect and today (after returning duh) I started the car and it chocked a lil bit but it dint die ... gave it a lil gas and after a minute or 2 i drove away. Idle seamd lil high from what i remember but when it warmed up it started surging (1K - 1.5K) steady with same intervals. Before i posted i read about cleaning FITV and IACV and vacuum leaks. I have TB and Intake gaskets ready to go in my parts collection so I am going to dissassemble everythin 2morrow morning - clean, check and assemble again ...
Question is: what is the most common cause of idle surge like that for no apparent reason from operators input?
Any help greatly appriciated
Mike

Re: HELP: Left for a week to Chi-town and after car surges
For the past 2 years I had thought my IACV was bad but I figured out finally, that I had a sticky throttle. Manually raise the accelerator pedal with your foot when it idles high and see if that fixes it.

I dont know about hondas OBD2 motors.. but on the older.. ive fixed 3 or 4 cars by screwing in the plunger on the FITV.. Sometimes it can be it IACV..
One easy way to check.... (Again Im used to obd1 engines)
is to take off the intake.. look inside the TB and there should be 2 vacuum holes
If you put your finger on the lower hole and the idle is fixed and doesnt die.. then its your fitv..
If you put your finger on the top hole and it fixes your idle... then its usually your iacv i believe..
