Default Help, Leak from Oil pan - To Hondabond or not, That is my question

When I replaced a faulty oil pan (the seat was bent) my buddy read that a sealant(Hondabond) is not required between the oil pan and block, other than the gasket. All oil pan bolts were torqued in at 9ft lbs. and I'm still having a leak problem. I'm going through a quart of oil every 250 - 350 miles. I'm tired of wasting my money, let alone dumping that much oil into the enviroment. So, I guess I'm looking for any suggestion on what others might have done to stem the flow of oil leaking out from the oil pan. Thanks for all your help.

What kind of oil pan gasket did you use? A honda one or a Fel-pro? WIth either one you have to make sure that both block and pan surfaces are clean. I like the permadry rubber that Fel-Pro uses, hasn't failed me yet.

i used the blue rubber felpro one. its very important that you dont put too much torque on the bolts holding the oil pan, as this would cause the rubber to flex unevenly, making leaks possibe... use a small torque wrench and make sure they are all lightly and evenly torqued.

also, i use small dabs of high temp silicone around the corners and sides when changing an oil pan.

I just put in a FelPro gasket on a GSR and I haven't had any trouble.
