when i took out the fuel filter there was alot of rust in it... i thought two things my gas tank is rusted on the inside and the other...it was the original fuel filter. i bhought it off some old guy that used it about 3 weeks a year...i was hoping it was just that the filter had not been changed but i dont know im stumped

how long have you owned the car?has it done this since you bought it,or did it just recently develop?what car and engine?when you say you checked the timing, did you actually use a timing gun,or did you mean that the distributor hasn't been moved from the factory position?

hmmm....i'm thinking here.how many miles on the motor?you might want to try some kind of top end cleaner like Seafoam.i always use it when i swap in a motor-really gets all the carbon out of the intake and head.if you've got a lot of buildup that can definately lead to knocking.it only costs a few bucks and is easy to do.really makes a difference.

the engine cleaner is worth a shot.i've had higher mileage motors before that would ping even with proper timing and octane.got all the built up carbon out with the Seafoam and it cured the ping, and made them run smoother.

it has directions on the can-you can get it at most auto parts stores....basically,you warm the car up(with the intake arm off),and spray the Seafoam into the throttle body.you let it sit for a few minutes, then start the car back up and let it run until it burns it all away.
you might also want to pick up a new set of NGKs while you're there,as sometimes the Seafoam can foul the plugs out.after you get done, you can throw in the new ones.

yeah,i'd get a set of standard NGK plugs while you're there-should be under $2 a piece.
