I just installed my aem short ram intake to my 97 civic lx, but when i hit the gas it makes the noise you get when you need to change ur brake pads? anyone can help/relate?

its common, its air whistling past the throtle body.

i dont think there is anythign that'll make it quiter unless u change your filter i think... you'll get used to it though

it shouldnt be that noticible...

have a friend in the car, and have him/her give it a little gas, and make 100% sure its the intake. it should only make a sucking of air noice, not screeching

My AEM CAI is crazy loud at partial throttle - it's a very audible whistle, but some might call it a "screech" I guess. It is perfectly normal.

Just make sure your silicon rubber sleeves are as flush as possible where the tubing meet the TB, and the filter meets the tubing, etc. and make sure the clamps are in place and are tight enough.

i have a AEM CAI also and i hear it too. i think it is more of a whistle then a screech, but its normal. it only happens when you press the gas at a certain point tho so just press the gas more or less and it will go away.

****, my intake doesn't make **** worth of noise, hisses when the air's rushing in...that's it though, no screeching bullshit, iono how 'normal' that crap is...

i have that problem but i changed my throttle body and forgot to take the old gasket off the manifold and i put a new gasket on &gt;_&gt; so wish i could help cuz that sound is annoying

I'd say normal enough to the point where every AEM intake i've ever installed on customers' cars makes the exact same noise, and I've done well over 50 in the past 6 years.



I mean I can reference my own B18C5 with whistling intake that makes utmost whp/torque for the minimal mods it has, but that doesn't mean anything, right?

well the whistling deffinately isnt something you need to worry about. it doesnt affect your engine.

By whistling, do you mean a loud humming noise?

My AEM CAI makes a deep resonating noise constantly, which I believe is the air vibrating the tube causing the resonation.

but i feel cool when dumb asses come up to me and ask if i have a turbo.
but for fun i always say yes

lol yeah i have an aem cai and i was asked if i had a turbo once. it kinda shocked me when the kid asked but o well mine makes that noise too. i wouldnt worry about it

I have a 93 hb si, with just some no name intake and filter.. fast for around here.. small *** hick town, and everyone thinks I have a turbo because of my intake

I usually just reply with "oh ya shes sleeping.. just havent woke her up yet"

A friend in the car isn't needed, you have access to the throttle under the hood right on your throttle body.

As for the whistle, I don't know, usually in order to make a whistling noise you have to have a hole somewhere? Have you tried reinstalling the pipe to the throttle body and making sure everything is a tight fit? Might want to try refitting the filter to the other end of the pipe.

I have an AEM CAI and I can only hear my intake grumble when I'm at a high throttle. Lower RPMs in a high gear with full throttle make the most predominant noise, but high gear at low RPM also means little acceleration. But never have I heard a screeching noise or a whistle on my 95 del Sol Si D16Z6.

i think that is normal. my aem itr cai whistles at a particular throttle position. make sure everything is tight( really sealed, not tight). does the car run well?
