Help Installed Gauge covers Now car overheats..?
Hello, last night me and a friend installed those light up gauge covers that go over ur existing Mph/rpm/ fuel and oil temp gauges. I wired the red wire from the gauges to the red wire coming out of the dimmer switch, Then i wired the black ground wire to the ground coming off the dimmer switch also. The gauges light up and work fine but when the kid drove home he called me and told me the temp gauge went to the top to hot in a matter of 2 mins, i meet up with him to find coolant from the engine overflow in the overflow tank. What could cause the car to all of a sudden keep over heating. Also when i turn the cars heat on it blows ice cold.... Could i have shorted something out? the car was in the shop last month for a thermastat replace. i checked the fuses and everything seems ol is there anything else i can check? also the fan dosent seem to turn on.. any info or help would be great. Thanks everyone

the thermostat might be stuck open or closed. the wiring shouldnt have done anything. but you shouldve tapped it with the light on/off on the back of the guage cluster so it come on/off with the lights. did you get all the air out of the raidiator ?

Well about 2 weeks ago my car did the same thing. At first i just didn't think of anything becasue my car wasn't showing any signs of over heating so i just thought my thermostat was broke.
Then when i drove home my CEL light came on and the car started burping and of course the Temp gauge was at red hot.
So i checked the anti-freeze and where i live it just started getting below 0 about 2 weeks ago. There wasent enought anti-freeze to water mixture and it wasent circulating. Try and buy some anti-freeze and filler up in the radiotor.
Yeah my heat would blow cold air and it would say the car was red hot in like 2 min. I think it was because there wasent enought anti-freeze and there was some air bubbles.
All i know is when i dumped about half a bottle of anti-freeze in there my problems were solved. So try this it might help.

hey thanks, as of right now when i turn the car on after about a minute or so the car just starts to idle up and down, its starts at around 1,000 and goes up to 1,900 and down again, over and over again, i can see alil steam coming out of the radiator cap when i took it off... im just really confused and when i give it a lil gas in it runs fine but as soon as i let go of the pedal it starts its crazy idle ahhh

Hey thanks everyone for all the info, the problem is fixed..it wasnt the thermastat but there was alot of air pockets in the hoses for coolant. I just squeezed the hoses untill all the bubbles went away, refilled the coolant and bleed the hoses again and the problem is solved...just want to say thanks
