Help, im getting zapped everytime I exit my EK
Hey guys, I dunno if this is a problem with my car (2000 ek, ej6 whatever) or with all civics, but heres the deal. I just noticed it when the weather started getting colder, everytime I get out of the car, and I touch the door to shut it, I get a shock. Static? Poor ground? Any information would be of help, thanks

haha that always happens to me too. but its not just my car but my moms car and my dads car too. but it just happens to me and no one else. eventually you will look like an idiot like me because when you get out you will try to touch the door quick and rip your hand away from it to get it over with. but there is no problem. there could be a messed up ground. or it could just be too much static runnin through your hands

It's completely normal.
What I do to avoid the "shock" is using my elbow or forearm to shut the door. I look like a girly-man doing that.

my friend had this key chain of a car, and the car would absorb the static shock, and the cars lights on the keychain would light up...pretty awesome

u can get a rubber metal strip that hangs on your rear bumper so it will discharge the static

Yes, this happens to me on my EJ6 too (2000 ek coupe). I usually touch the interior of the door and slide my hand to the exterior to shut it...as im getting out of my car. It's pretty natural now - after all those zaps.. haha

I hate when that happens. I open the door and grab the upper part of the door (metal part) and than get out of the car never get shocked doing that.

I don't think thats normal, mine only started happening once the ground wire for my rear lights snapped.

I have never been shocked by my car. Could it be because of my massive ground wire for my stereo system, or am i just lucky?

Static electricity guys, Im sure your cars are fine...As you get out of the car, your sliding across your seat which can make static depending on what your wearing.
When its dryer out,you will make more static electricity...
Get some seatcovers if it really bothers you...
Thats why civics w/ vinyl interiors wont shock you.
Might try some of that anti-static spray stuff they sell for clothes too...

So that's what those things are for!! I always wondered what those things are that some people had hanging off their rear bumper.
But yeah, the shock is normal. Just close the door by the plastic window molding or the top corner of the door.

I think it is because of the season. It has been happening to me a lot lately too.
As for that second ebay auction, I don't like the idea of that thing dragging on the ground...

This guy is right the static elec. your feeling doesnt come from the car it comes from you and when you touch the frame of the car the, difference in electrical potential causes the static from your body to ground to the car body.
I'm a electrician in the rail industrie and I get jacked all the time-I love it! I put mustard on it and eat that ****
