Help idle problems after valve adjustment
I just adjusted the valves on my civic and cleared the computer. Now I start it and its on the warm up idle fine for just over 30 seconds then the idle drops and rises and drops and rises continually. Did I do the valve adjustment too tight too lose. Or is something else affecting the idle please help

Re: Help idle problems after valve adjustment
what procedure did you follow when doing the adjustment?
the symptom is commonly related to a large vacuum leak or IACV issue. if you absolutely only touched the valves then i don't see how it could be related.

or check for something you unplugged and didnt plug back up.
if that doesnt work, then try cleaning the IACV and see if it helps.
if that doesnt work adjust the FITV (if the car has one, i can give you a step by step how to do so if need be)
if that doesnt work then i would recheck the valve clearances

Did you let the engine warm up till operating temp and then shut if off? Or did you start it up, go for a drive and now that it's warm, it's surging? If the latter, do the former. This happened to me all the time on my 99 Cx hatch. Its as if the ECU needs to 're-learn' the idle.
