Default HELP!!-I blew my D16Y8 tonight on my way home! ***Need a swap in Dallas, TX***

This sucks ***. I was driving down central about 90 and my engine started making a noise, exited Mockingbird on my way home and the noise got really load and the oil light started flickering-1st time EVER. I pulled into a parking lot and the car was idling down and made a bang! sound. I know it's a gonner. I think it had a oil leak, I just changed it a month ago myself, so I am still in shock.

My credit is not very good, but I think I can get a motor financed.

The blown motor has a header, intake, cat, catback, blue mugen valve cover. I live in Dallas, TEXAS.

What motor should I have put in and where should I have the work done? I need it to work well, AC and all.

I'd LOVE like to do a K20A swap into my 1997 Civic EX.

Please let me know if anyone can help. I'll even throw in the D16 parts if i can get a deal.

-Edward

you shouldn't have been driving 90 anyways. a blown motor should be the least of your worries.

You're an idiot.

To the thread starter, a preliminary guess would be that one of your main seals blew and caused one of the main bearings to fail.

hit up the classifieds here, you may be able to catch a deal.

and if credit is an issue, then i would suggest not looking for a K20 swap. from what i hear they are very expensive.

but if i were you i would put another Y8 in there, and do it yourself, or at least have help, so you can learn while getting your car fixed

And you didn't help him either so you STFU

What do you want to do with the car that is my first question to everyone that wants a swap recommended. The K20 is a great motor but just not cost effitive yet. If you want more power w/ a great platform to build from i say get a full Si swap drops right in no worries.

I just need to get it up and running. Another D16Y8 is fine, but I really want more power. What would it cost to do a B18C5 swap? I'm gonna have to pay someone to do the work. I don't have the know-how. But I can hepl if it would reduce the price. I was thinking Joteck or Asian imports .

C5 will be too much money if you don't have the cash i would go w/ an Si swap (99-00) i dont have prices in front of me but they arn't that expensive and they will give you the power you need.

If all you NEED is another motor i say buy a stock shortblock from someone slap your head on there and you will be good.

just do it yourself, more than enough people here om h-t that will help you. Get a y8 long block, nippon motors has some for 650, and we will walk you threw it. Should'nt take a total noobie more than a week with our help.

You will also learn A LOT. If you want this as a hobbie, start doing motor swaps now.

hell... i'll even let you call me and i can walk you threw it over the phone. (not all at once, but part by part.

I agree, put another Y8 in its place. Down the road when you have more money and can afford to go faster turbo that motor. I have a friend running an internally stock D16Z6 in his 95 EX with a greddy turbo kit and exhaust and his car beats my 92 GSR with I/E easily. The EX motors respond well to turbo and his has over 140,000 miles and hit 158whp 143wtor, which is more than most swaps anyway.

I didn't mean to flip on you like that. I just think that you should search a little bit before you come and take up space......and please slow down..if not for your own sake, for the sake of other's "life and limb". Thanks man and good luck

It's cool. Don't worry about it.

I do need to get it fixed, and as cheap as possible. Maybe I just need a new head? I can bolt crap onto my engine, but when it comes to the internals, I'd rather have someone else who knows what they are doing. I don't mind helping and learning along the way.

did you leak a lot of oil, cuase if thier was oil dripping anywhere... you blown the block. Look at the oil pan, the head.. MAYBE be ok.. your going to have to take it to a machine shop to get checked out.

Yeah, I had a leak, and I never really noticed it, but after looking at my parking spaces at work lately, I should have been paying more attantion. I'm thinking about doing a B18C1 swap, after talking to some people.

90 is about the driven speed on central expressway (75)

This is just an opinion...
My boy locked his motor up in his 91 hatch. We didn't know squat about swaps back then and took it to a local shop to get it fixed. By the time we were through, paying for a used motor and labor it would have only been a few hundred more dollars to buy a B series motor and swap it ourselves. A year later we could have kicked our own butts for spending all that money and still having a "stock" car.

True if you go any slower you'll get ran off the road.

obviously you have your sights set on the most expensive motor.
If you want to save money get another y8 and keep your old y8 and rebuild it re-sleeve it, head work, new rods + forged pistons (possibly a new crank) and piece together a turbo set up (intercooler + BOV) and swap that when its done.

BTW you can find a D16y8 block for $200± and the whole thing for $400±
you could put down 200+whp with that set-up with the right tuning & bolt-ons

I would definately check the motor out at a machine shop or something and weigh out what would be more cost effective for you. Perhaps you could get a deal on fixing it and it won't cost an arm and a leg. Just shop around and weigh your options. Good luck.
