HELP Huge oil leak after head swap!!!
Hello,
I have a 97 Civic DX SOHC. When I bought the car the head was bad, so I swapped it for a fresh rebuilt head.
I have everything put back on and I started the car and it was in time (thank goodness).
Looked under the car for coolant leaks and there's a HUGE slick of oil literally pouring out of the lower block (from the main bearing / pulley area).
I torqued the head bolts to 49 ft/lbs as the manual stated and I can see that oil is coming from above the main bearing. I really don't know what's up here!
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Mike

Re: HELP Huge oil leak after head swap!!!
not trying to be a smart *** man just checking some times we all over look the simplest things
1 head gasket ?
2 head bolts tightened in the correct order ?
3 clean the block surface and head surface before the gasket was installed ?
4 to much oil ?
if the head was bad the block may be bad also and need to be re milled
just some off the top ideas man

Re: HELP Huge oil leak after head swap!!!
question 1,why was the old head bad? headgasket issue or something?
question 2, while the head was off did you tinker with anything else? like oil filter, unbolting the oil pan etc
question 3 did you take the timing covers off to do the timing? did you make sure to use gasket maker between the oil pan and cover?
i know its odd questions but they gotta be answered.

I think I forgot to install the new cam seal. I haven't checked yet, but I'm pretty sure there wasn't a cam seal at all on the rebuilt head. So basically I ran the car for 10 seconds without a cam seal.
I think I couldn't see where it was coming from because the timing belt covers hid the leak's origin.

I'm pretty sure my firing order is correct too.
Could a bad PVC valve cause this?
