HELP! HIT DIP IN CIVIC N WONT START NOW
Hello everyone, I have a 1996 Honda Civic EX V-tech and hit a mean dip the other day. Deployed airbags, cracked windshield AND cracked my oil pan. I replaced my oil pan BUT now I have no spark and have no communication with my computer, I tried hooking up my scanner but it kept saying, "communicating with computer." Any ideas anyone? This is my first time deploying airbags and what not. Im thinking after the airbags deploy, the computer needs to be reset or something, maybe even a fuse? I havent had a chance to REALLY check it out but im pretty lost. I hope one of u dudes can help me out.

Do you currently have power to ANYTHING? When you put the key in the ignition, does it ding? Does the dome light come on? Do the head/tail lights work?

Another reason not to lower your car more than 1.5 inches. The car is most likely done anyway. The frame is probably bent in more than one place and is unsafe to drive even if you do get it started.

Hit a dip? You had a collision. With that much damage I'd have to agree with the poster above. Start looking everything over. That's about all I can suggest. I wouldn't know personally where to start on something like this.

The legitimate and sensible place to start would be calling the insurance company, totaling out the car, part it, and getting a new chassis, but some people can't do that.

I have power, but seems like no spark. I think Its my computer or a computer fuse, barely gonna check it out good today. No bent chassis, and no insurance. Just got it not too long ago.

I have never heard of the airbags deploying when someone hit a `dip`...maybe post some pics so we can see what kind of damage was done and maybe we can start from there....
But as per 98civdx, what have you checked already? Other than trying to scan for codes..

In order for it to run and pass most state inspections, He'll have to fix the problem, then replace the full SRS system. The cost of the SRS system alone is enough to total out most older cars. Yeah, we're calling it totaled right now.

if the dip was realy bad, in a legitamate area to be driving, i would be contacting a lawyer and not the insurance. make the town, city, state, whoever is responsible for that road pay for it. one of my ex friends had a 06 mustang GT with 20" saleen wheels, hit a pothole bent 2 rims and destroyed those tires. guess who paid for it? the town did!

LOL, damn, thats LOWWWWW
I think a lowered car looks great until it looks as if the body is resting on the wheels. Reducing/eliminating the wheel gap is a far as it should go.

Re: HELP! HIT DIP IN CIVIC N WONT START NOW
same thing happened in my crx, ran a stop sign running from the ****ing police(young and ****ing stupid!) the road was clearly repaved but the intersecting road wasnt so it dipped down then back up at the other side and i fuvking hammered it and my car shut off went from 70-0 like nothing lol all said and done i ended up not getting arrested and i had to mess with the grounds for an hour to get it running again so i could leave moral of the story is it didnt bend anything the car was perfectly fine just messed up the bottom of the bumper alittle and knocked the ground loose..

Seems like it has spark? Does it have it or not? Something you could check out is to see if its getting fuel. I had a friend hit a huge pothole last year and the car ran for about 30 seconds and cut off. Checked spark and fuel and it wasn't getting fuel. Opened up the top where the pump is behind the back seat and found the filter sock that sucks up the fuel fell off in the tank and wasn't able to send fuel to the rail. Placed the sock back on and it cranked right up. Its something easy to check if you aren't getting fuel.
