Default Help help. question about custom exhaust pipes

THE STORY:
ok so on my way to class this morning, a weld(the front weld on the stock resonator) on my stock pipes completely rusted out. so now i'm in dire need for a new exhaust.
well i was plannning on going with maybe a ws catback, or custom pipes with maybe like an es oval exhaust. but now i have no time to wait for a catback so i need to get the pipping done now. so i called up a local shop and he said he could do 2.25" pipes from the cat back for 175 plus weld on whatever muffler i bring. but when i asked, he said they were not mandrel bent pipes. so what should i do? say no cuz they arn't mandrel bent?

CLIFF NOTES:
exhaust broke this morning-i need a new one
shop can do 2.25" pipes from cat-back for 175
pipes are NOT mandrel bent

QUESTION:
should i say no because they are not mandrel bent?

i would not run crush bent piping. but it sounds like you really need an exhaust. you can buy 2.5" 180 degree mandreal bends from JCW for $15 a peice. note that it take 2 of these bends to make a apex N1 style exhaust if you cut them right. then all you need is straight piping welded in. so for aprrox $30 plus what they charge you for straight piping and labor, and then the cost of your muffler of choice. of you can find catback system on Ebay that are stainless and use mandrel bends for under the $300 mark. it all depends on what muffler you are going to run. that will greatly determine the overall cost of your setup. good luck

^^ sounds good to me, unless youre in a hurry and thats what it seems like..

you wouldnt get crush-bent piping at all?

why dont you look for another shop that can do mandrel bends?
good luck

yeah, i need it fixed pronto..
but to be honest, i'm not looking for any extra hp at all. i'm really just looking for something that has a nice quiet tone to it, and is visually more pleasing to look at than my stock pea shooter muffler. so if the difference between mandrel and crushed pipes means 1hp, then it doen't bother me at all
so unless there is a quality difference or something then i think i'll just go with the current offer i found

I wouldnt really say theres THAT much of a difference. But thats from my knowledge- so someone else might be able to tell you otherwise.

I personally would prefer mandrel bent over crush bent for airflow reasons... which is basically what youre saying. But in the end, it doesnt make that much of a difference. (IMO) Just wait for some more replies, and also ask around other shops. Post on a local forum to you to find a shop that does mandrel bends.
Good luck

well i just got another place to match that offer.
so now i've got MANDREL BENT 2.25" pipes catback for 175 with a lifetime warrenty on all parts and labor.
now i just need to find a muffler.. which really worries me cuz i'm afraid that they might only have fartcan ones. and i really only want something low toned and quiet.. like the apexi ws
