Default Help- having problem after v-tec engages in my d16z6..

Hi,everyone!

So I have problem after v-tec engages- 2nd cylinder stops working for about minute. Sometimes it's both - 2nd and 3rd don't work. Anyone had something like this before?

I just put ZEX 59300 camshaft on my d16z6 and problem apeared.. This could be coincidence?

Is there a possibility that v-tec turns off electrically but don't turn off mechanicaly?

What do you think guys? Any suggestions?

How do you know this, did you throw a code? Does it stop giving fuel / spark?

I don't see how this would be possible.

I don't know about fuel injecting but there are no problems with spark, spark plugs, spark wires, distributor cap and rotor.. We also tried to change fuel injectors but it didn't solve the problem.

No ECU codes also.

Any other ideas???

How do you know the cylinders stopped working?

And exactly which ones stopped working. The only time VTEC should engage is under load, near full throttle and over 20 (?) MPH.

Actually it's 2nd cylinder and sometimes it's both 2nd and 3rd. The problem appears when v-tec kicks, cause we set up v-tec at 5000 rpm and cylinder stopped working after 5000, then we set up v-tec at 5500 and it stopped working after 5500.

There is no doubt it's something with v-tec. So why? And how it can stop working cylinder???

Any other ideas?

Ha,ha..

No,I mean it don't work when I slow down and stop my car after kicking v-tec!

Like this:
1. I rev till v-tec kicks (I don't know weather cylinder works there)
2. I slow down and stop my car (engine is running)
3. 2nd cylinder has stopped working (I pull out spark wire out of 2nd cylinder to see what happens and there is no change)
4. after some minute or less it just starts working!

I hope it's clear now how it happens..

So any suggestions now?

So what brought this on? I mean when you say VTEC 'not working' what exactly are the symptoms?

In steps three and four, if you've pulled over and pulled the spark plug wire, what does that have to do with VTEC? Are you saying you're not getting spark? What do you mean in step four that it just starts working?

I'm just trying to get to the bottom of why you started pulling wires (which you really shouldn't be doing) and what really happens when you do this, because you could be causing your own problems.

Yes,valve lash is adjusted already!
And,yes,my car/ecu is tuned already (actually problem was before and after ecu tuning)!

I didn't say v-tec don't work..

I said when I rev till v-tec kicks 2nd cylinder stops working! How can I know that? Well engine is almost shutting down like it's when you pull out spark wires. So I pulled out spark wires to search which cylinder is not working! How can I know? Well there is no change in engine sound (yes, it sounds different if one cylinder isn't working) and it still shakes badly. And when I pull out other plug wires, engine stops (well it can't run with two cylinders working). So it's 2nd cylinder!
And about step four. Yes,for about one minute engine works with three cylinders and then it just starts working again. So it's wierd and I don't know how to fix this and what's wrong.

How v-tec can cause this?

So any other suggestions please?

Does it only do it when it goes into VTEC? I'm not sure if it's related, or if it's related to high engine RPM. It sounds like it stops firing, and when you go back to idle, it's still not firing for a period of time.

When you pull the wire, are you getting spark? Can you smell fuel?

Yes it does only when goes into VTEC.. Actually I didn't see the spark because it was sunny day and I could't see it as I tried. Didn't notice fuel smell.

After that I changed distibutor cap and rotor, also spark wires and spark plugs and problem was the same.. How can it be bossible if it don't give spark to 2nd cylinder but gives it to three others?

You really need to find out if there's spark or not. My money is on no spark. If you're pulling the wires while it's running, you should be able to hear or feel it arcing if it was sparking.

I'm really sorry for disinformation!

I checked yesterday and it was really low SPARK even not kicking v-tec! VERY LOW SPARK IN EVERY WIRE.. Actually it seemed to me there was no spark at all at first (imagine how low it is if you do it in the darkness),but I had to put it at piece of metal to see THAT weak spark.. And when v-tec kicks it's too low to run properly engine.

So I have new: spark wires, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor.

I don't want to buy whole distributor,so please give me advice what should be changed to fix low spark. Thank you..

You may have to. It sounds like this may be your problem.
