Default HELP!! Guage cluster/deck wiring problem in EK

I bought a 96 civic with some wiring issues. I tried to install a deck with the cut wiring harness due to the car being broken into. I used all the proper wires except the main power for the deck, the one from the harness didn't work. I used a stray wire which was sitting back there and it all worked perfect. While trying to put deck back in slot it cut out and now wont work.

Now also the cluster doesn't work. It lights up, but none of the little lights work, except battery, blinkers work, headlights work, none of the guages work - speedo, rpm, temp. The cluster is from a 1.6EL (the red backround)

I followed the stray wire and found it's spliced with a wire from the guage cluster. It's the single wire which goes in at the RPM on the cluster. Checked the fuses I thought it might be, they seem fine. Can anyone give some help, or identify an exact fuse they think it might be, Thanks in advance.

Did you check the fuses under the hood or only the ones under the dash?

^^^Checked the fuses under the hood as well, the backup radio fuse and 'other' 40amp fuse were blown, I replaced them with the power window fuses but it didn't do anything

hrmmm. used wire for something its not suppoed to be used for. problem happens. why did it happen? cause thats not what the wire is supposed to be used for and is probably rated lower.
I would check under hood and under dash fuses one by one. since we cant be exactly sure which "strey wire" you used we wont be able to tell you exactly which one so just check them all. after you find out which one blew the next step is to figure out why the actual power wire for the radio isnt working (also probably a fuse), fix it, and wire it correctly. you should start though by un-doing whatever wiring you did to blow fuses in the first place.

I bought the car in this state, i didn't add any wires, just used what was there and foolishly hoped it would be ok without checking the sources of the wires - lesson learned.

My biggest problem is the guage cluster, can a blown fuse cause the guages not to work?
