help! gsr swapped eg tach and speedo acting wierd
i have a 92 dx civic and has a gsr swap and i have a couple issues
first the speedo sometimes works and then will spike and the drop off and stay at 0 no matter what speed i go
second the tach does the same thing only it very rarely works at all and sometimes it will sit around 1-1.5rpm and bounce around no matter what rpm im actually revving and then drop to zero and stay there
i suspect two seperate issues as sometime one or the other works fine with the other sitting at zero
i thought speed sensor for the speedo issue but i would like to know how to test it rather than just throwing a new part at it
***also i swapped a known good guage cluster out of my other eg and both still did not work
any hints or suggestions on what to check i really hate not having stuff in my car working properly
thanks everyone!

Re: help! gsr swapped eg tach and speedo acting wierd
I had the same problem in my EG hatch. I have a Ls swap and the speedo started spazzin' out. Friend told me to clean the housing because its known to corrode, cleaned it up and it worked fine for a while, then started acting up again. Tranny ended up going before I could fix it, so I got a GSR tranny that had a good working speed sensor and fixed the problem. Never had tach issues though, thats not a sensor issue there.

Re: help! gsr swapped eg tach and speedo acting wierd
my friend had this problem in his 95 si with a gsr. i dont remember exactly how he fixed it but i think he swapped the speed sensor and clusters. i would try that and see if it has anything to do with it. i think it was the green **** on the back of the cluster that was causing the problem somehow. i will ask and let you know.

bought and installed jdm cluster and now the speedo seems to work but still no tach
anyone got any links for a wiring diagram for the tach? or know if there are any relays or common problems?

it could be the sensor in the dizzy that gets the RPM. try swapping the dizzy and see if it fixes the problem.
