Default HELP!! Engine dying

I have a 98 Civic with an upgraded walbro fuel pump that is about 2 years old. Everytime I start the car up the first time under cold temperature I notice that the somewhat loud humming noise from the fuel pump would cut in and out everytime I would shift the stickshift all the way to the left. If I were to continue popping it into first gear, the engine would just die. But I am able to start up the car without any problems. But if I were to drop it into second gear it would be fine. Now I've had my battery (new) checked as well my alternator (good) and they were both good. This only seems to happen during the first 5 or so minutes. Once I start driving it's fine.

Is there and sensors when the stickshift goes into first gear ??
