Default Help! Dunked IACV in carb cleaner = Expanded IACV gasket :-\

Like an idiot I cleaned my IACV a while back by taking it out and letting the whole thing sit in carb cleaner for several hours. When I went to hook it back up in the car... coolant spraying everywhere. Turns out this little rubber gasket got expanded in the process, and now I have a perfectly good but perfectly useless IACV!!

Just wondering what I should do... or where I could possibly get this gasket:

Also aluminum foil makes a great gasket but I don't plan on living like this forever.

order one online, or go to the dealer, its rubber (or paper?) and costs like 3 bucks at the most.

Hahaha, I am loving the tin foil gasket. So cheap, I used to be the same way. Instead of running a catalytic convertor, I kept wrapping my 2nd 02 in tin foil and sticking it back in the 2nd bung in the header.

Some helpful responses so far.. I'll have to look into this so-called honda bond. I definately can't go to the dealer with this because I'll strangle someone if they ask me for $100,000,000 for a new IACV heh.

If someone else has dealt with this or knows where exactly I can order the rubber piece online that'd be clutch.

And yes tin foil is the sheit for gaskets.... exhaust manifold etc etc etc it has endless ghetto applications

^ I have a d16z6 fully converted to obd1 inside of a CRX chasis. I'll probably go this week or next to the Honda dealership () if no one knows of a place to order online.

Our price (www.acuraautomotiveparts.org) $1.83

this is for an ls integra but I'm sure pretty similar to what you need, just find your model of engine and order one for that one

Personnaly I'd just use silicone. Go to a parts store and but Permatex's product "The Right Stuff: For Imports" It works great as a gasket maker. I did my oil pan with it about a year and a half ago and no leaks yet.

I don't think he is looking for #22 though. He does not need the one that goes against the IM he needs the one that is on the bottom where the two coolant tubes are attached. Look where he has the foil in his pic up above.

i dont know what you're talking about.....hondabond is strong but it does come off.....just buy new gaskets (if they sell them) or just hondabond (kinda expensive) or use RTV sealant, the grey kind

Makes great gasket. You can get if off if needed also. Its like hondabond.

I would strongly suggest getting a gasket from Honda if one is available. Using a gasket sealer/material might not be a good idea unless you know exactly what product to use. I do know many RTVs are not gas proof and will break down on contact... learned that the hard way using some back in the old days of dirt bikes and using RTV on the intake manifold side.

With regard to the original gasket swelling up, I had a similar problem when I used gasoline to clean some brake calipers. Caliper piston gasket swelled up so much I couldn't get get it back into the bore. I was screwed as I could not find a caliper rebuild kit locally. Much to my surprise, the gasket shrank back down to size in a few hours after the gasoline evaporated from the gasket material. I reused the gasket and the brakes are working fine today w/o leaking.

Bottom line... watch what you expose the gaskets to. Without knowing what material they are made of and what solvent to use, very bad things can happen.

Good luck... hope a new gasket solves your problem.
