Help Diagnose Please! My EM1 is rattling like crazy.
A loud and conistent rattling/knocking noise comes from the front passenger tire area under any form of deceleration(braking, decelerating gears, even a moving idle). But theres absolutely nothing under any throttle. It wasnt bad for a while...but now..unless i basically floor it...the entire car shakes. has anyone experienced such a problem? It can't have anyhting to do with wheels or tires because its done it on two sets. Also, the engine feels like its running perfectly. No check engine light...nothing but an orange maintenance required light.
Thanks for your help.

are you getting a vibration during braking? Could be the following:
- bad balljoints (pop/clicks/vibrations)
- CV's are worn (clicking when cornering)
- Endlinks are broken (rattle over small bumps/ car will feel less stable in corners)
- Dust shields for brakes are bent (vibrations/ clicking/knocking)
- Brake pads are loose from retainer clips (vibration when braking/wobble/knocking)
- Tierods are shot (vibrations while braking, car pulls left or right, loose steering, knocking..)
It's seriously near impossible to diagnose from online discriptions.. help yourself out and jack the car up and look for broken endlinks, dust shield hitting brake rotor, CV grease all over the place or play in your tierods.

Could be the following:
- bad balljoints (pop/clicks/vibrations)
Definitely happening
- CV's are worn (clicking when cornering)
Also happening
- Endlinks are broken (rattle over small bumps/ car will feel less stable in corners)
Still Corners okay
- Dust shields for brakes are bent (vibrations/ clicking/knocking)
Possibly, but I just changed my wheels out and they looked okay.
- Brake pads are loose from retainer clips (vibration when braking/wobble/knocking)
Brakes are as steady as always
- Tierods are shot (vibrations while braking, car pulls left or right, loose steering, knocking..)
Could be. But the pulling doesnt seem to be a huge problem....and it vibrates without braking.

Re: (MidwestSiR)
it's not fixed. As of now its sitting in the dealer lot. I'm getting it looked at on monday. Sorry if my laziness and lack of mechanical skill disappoints you. But when they diagnose the exact problem I will update.

I do appreciate it...its good to have an idea of the problem before hitting the dealership because we know how they love to take advantage of ones ignorance.

Re: (MidwestSiR)
update: really no news about the cars condition...but I test drove a 4 door si after talking to the mechanic. pretty solid car. a little heavy..but smooth and comfy as hell.
i asked them about the 4dr mugen edition and they said only 1000 of the 1700 dealers are getting one..and each only gets one. sounds pretty cool.
updates about the problem later on...

Re: (bayeg6)
they say its motormounts and they want 510 dollars to replace them all.
Also, i guess theres a problem with one of my rims...they said that one of the lug holes was oval shaped and was messing up the stud, which sucks because i just got the rims and mounted falken azenis rt 615s....anyone had such a problem/know how to correct it? thanks
