help d16y7 new turbo kit problems
So i have a 98 dx hatch w/ a typical stock d16y7 and i am putting a home built turbo kit on it including a t3/t4 50 trim turbo. The whole kit has been installed and i finally did my test fire tonight. It started up and idled like a champ with no oil leaks so i figured i would let it idle and warm up so i could make sure it would hit boost.... No boost! my turbo spins freely(Sp?) and will spin a little bit under RPMs. I got a knock off of a tial wastegate (external) with a 6 psi spring in it. Now going through everything double checking i find that my wastegate is staying open even at an idle. what would cause this? would it be my vacuum lines messed up or something else? i kind of guessed on where to hook up the vacuum lines after going through the archives but none of them actually showed a d16y7 motor. Someone please help me i need to get this thing out of the garage! Thanks

post up a pic of the wastegate...you proably have a vac line in the wrong spot. fyi the top nipple on the wg goes to a boost controller...if you dont have a boost controller just leave it open

its at the top of the fpr, i am reading vac on my boost gauge, would it hurt to try a stiffer spring or would it really matter if its an f'ed up wastegate?

are you sure that you have the wastegate bolted up correctly? the flange with the valve seated is on the manifold side? is the fire ring that the valve seats to installed correctly? technically it isnt supposed to be a vac line that goes to that bottom nipple just a pressure only line thats before the throttle body, but it really shouldnt matter for this.
did the wastegate stay closed when it wasnt hooked up to anything? does it close once you remove the vac source? just make sure its on the bottom nipple. Are you assuming its staying open becuase you see/feel exhuast coming from the outlet or do you see it actually stuck open and it wont close for again?
and lastly ( i hope i shouldnt have to ask this) but are you just trying to neutral spool it or are you driving the car with load on it while your trying to check for boost? YOUR CAR WILL NOT PRODUCE BOOST WITH JUST REVING THE **** OUT OF IT.
^^^what ever you do please dont assume it a faulty spring and/or wastegate and waste your time swapping all that ****. the chances of it being the actual wastegates functionality not letting you produce any boost is slim to none.
a 6psi spring ,especially hooked to a vac line thats not producing any boost, is gonna seat the valve WAY HARD ENOUGH to at least make some boost even if it is faulty.
