Help: D-series tranny noise
Mated a '98 EX tranny to my '92 VX motor today. Here are the specifics of the parts used:
'98 EX
'92 VX clutch release fork (re-used)
new SI release bearing
'92 VX clutch/flywheel (re-used)
'92 VX shifter rod/shifter (re-used)
During acceleration the tranny is flawless. During deceleration it makes a "loud grinding metal-metal contact." It sounds like very loud gear whine. If you push the clutch in it stops. Here are my questions:
1. Are there any differences in SOHC clutch release bearings? Inner diameter or thickness? It seemed to fit good, but wondering.
2. Are there any differences in SOHC clutch release fork lengths? The EX didn't have one when I bought it and I assumed they were interchangeable.
3. Are there any difference in SOHC shifter rod lengths? I have both, but didn't compare length since I assumed they were the same.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Help: D-series tranny noise (RStoR)
Hmmmmmmmmm...was the tranny over openned up?? I have the same noise but I know its my tranny bearings.....
LIke on deceleration you hear a lil whine with slight metal to metral rubbing but not to the extreme?? If so my guess is the ball bearing in the tranny bearing went bad......you can live with it until they come loose and you have many ***** of steal in your tranny case...
Thats all I can help with......to answer you question I'm 99% sure all d series tranny stuff is interchangable..
