Default Help with changing tranny's

I own a 99 civic ex coupe. It has an auto tranny. The car was bought for me, so I cant complain about it being an auto.

I want a manual. I know that people will suggest a swap(which im going to do soon, not real soon) or sell it to get a 5 speed.

My girlfreind is in the process of buying a 00 civic ex coupe, the car is 5 speed, she cant drive stick, she is getting the car for a real good price so thats why she is buying it.

Im pretty sure that we could trade trannys. Since I have the auto, she has the stick. My question is, even though im pretty sure it could be done no problem, is it possible? What all would be involved? What parts am I going to need off of her car? I know some, but i need to know every little part.

And do the engines have to be exactly the same? They both have the d16y8

Im just wondering if anyone has done this or is familiar with it.

Thanks in advance

Why not just trade cars? Why deal with the shade tree install of all that crap? Voiding warranties and such? Not worth it unless shes got a horrid color car or something. Good Luck

My car dont have a warranty. My parents bought it used. Her car wont either.

My parents bought me my car. I have kinda mentioned wanting to sell it to get a 5speed. I think its out of the picture.

My GF is buying her first car, so things are a little rough for her, finding a car within what she can afford. She came across a red coupe 00 ex, its fine, but its stick.

So selling the car is out of the picture, she came across the civic for cheap. She also suggested trading cars completely so we wouldnt have to go through the hassle. I have a white coupe that I really dont want to give up.

So without selling the cars or trading for a 5 speed, anyone know how I can do this myself and whats involved like originally stated.

Thanks for the suggestions you guys.

doing an auto to manual swap is not an easy task.
and from what I have heard not worth the time and money spent on the project when other options were readily available.

your choices as i see it are....
1) keep your auto car.
2) trade cars with your g/f when she buys the red coupe.
3) do an auto to manual swap.
Good Luck!

ARE YOU SERIOUS? well, i helped my friend do an auto to manual on a dsm and i hope you have a helms, nice well equipped garage with good floor jack and stands, someone with a lil more knowledge, and patience. BTW i don't know about civics, but some of the other equipment could be diff on your car as well that you wouldn't suspect. Such as fuel injectors and such. We just needed shift linkage, tranny, and the ecu out of the manual. im not sure if everything is the same for civics. I too would suggest trading but see you are very avid about keeping the whitey. I don't blame you too much but i would just reconsider if i was you. ( Bumpin up a year too!)
