Help: Cel P1456, EVAP emission control system leak detected
Hey everyone,
Car is a 97 honda civic dx and recently just had this cell pop up. I've tried searching the archives, but didn't seem to find much help. I have a print out from autozone that is telling me it could be 4 possible problems. 1. loose fuel cap (went ahead and replaced) 2. vapor canister saturated (someone in the archives said this is unlikely to be the reason this code popped up) 3. failed vent solenoid and 4. failed purge solenoid. The car just reached around the 110,000 mile mark. anyone with this problem been able to narrow down what I should try next? i haven't had much experience with the evap system, but with a little guidance hope to be able to fix what ever issue i have that is causing the cell.
My question is, is there a common source of where these leaks take place? Where is the vent and purge solenoid and is either more likely to be causing my issue? can anyone provide a link that would help me diagnose this particular issue or give any helpful suggestions of what steps i should take next? thanks in advance.

cleared the code and the cell always comes back within a couple days.
no performance problems at all, i will check fuse 15 today. however, im looking at the fuse box diagram online, and see that fuse 15 is for alternator, sp sensor? im not sure how this relates to the evap system? thanks for your suggestion ronj@ht

The fuse diagram above is incomplete. The FAQs sticky has a much better one that lists nearly all components protected by fuse 15.

ahh, the link you provided makes much more sense now as to how it relates to the evap system. i'm at work, but went and visually checked the fuse and it looks o.k., however, i will double check it with my fuse tester when i get home. in the event that this fuse is good, what direction would you try next? thanks again ronj!

Click the fuse link in my signature. You want to check for voltage at both top test tabs. No sense doing other troubleshooting until you are confident the fuse gets voltage and is good.
