HELP, Carbon and fuel/oil in cylinder 4 only, whats that mean?
I went to go check on my plugs that i recently put in and there is black carbon on the cylinder 4 spark plug (the old ones were like this too). Then i went and looked down into the piston on cyl 4 and see carbon deposits with either fuel or oil (just a little bit). The rest of the cylinders i checked were clean inside all except for cyl 4 and cylinders 1, 2, and 3 sparks plugs were normal. my guess that is cyl 4 is not burning up the fuel mixture but i'm not sure and i got a cel throwing a "too rich" code. But there is no black or blue smoke coming out the exhaust. i dunno what to do. Also my distributor was also set retarted. I moved it back to where the marks line up, could this be my problem? Please some one help!!!!! i also hear like a clicking or knocking noise coming from the head. The car is a 2000 civic si with the b16a2, only has 69k mi.

well if you hae confirmed that it is oil you're also seeing then i'd assume rings, seals, headgasket. Comression and leak down test the motor. Here's a link for hot to do the 2 test along with a ton of other useful info http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto.php

I don't think theres any oil, looks like fuel, i just wrote just a little bit of (either fuel or oil) but it looks more like fuel and carbon deposits. Could it sound like i possibly have a leaking fuel injector on cyl 4?

Re: (eXcelonTypeR)
i had a friend of mine (honda expert) drive my car to see how it pulls and he definately said theres somthing wrong. hes goin to look at my car like this weekend or next and he said its prob timing, the fuel injector (cyl 4), or a valve seal (cyl 4). He said my car should pull harder and said that a single cam pulls harder, and also his b16 w/ a blown head gasket pulls harder. I was like what??? Damn but he thinks theres nothing serious with the car, just somthing little. I do hope he's right

you might also wanna check your whole distributor set up u may not be burning cyl. 4. you might need to replace your cap and rotor for starters. its not expensive and real easy. but im 17 to so im not to sureeither. just trying to help.

check the spark plug wire on cylinder 4, get an ohm meter, start with simple things, make sure the timing is correct, then check the injectors, distributer etc.

Re: HELP, Carbon and fuel/oil in cylinder 4 only, whats that mean? (sicones)
the car has 69k mi. I think the kid before me who had it for like 10-15k mi beat on it bad but yea, i checked all my plugs and changed them w/ denso double platinum oem gapped, cap, wires, and rotor, they seem good. Cylinders 1, 2 , and 3, are clean and have no carbon and there dry inside but cyl 4 is the only one with carbon and looks like fuel with it. my car does not have black smoke or blue but it has a little bit of black when i hit VTEC but i'm driving the car under 4000 rpm until i fix my problem. Also, i have to keep my throttle open a little bit so the car won't bogg and die on me. Also when the car starts and warms up, it shoots like a black liquid out the exhaust and it drys up on the floor black. i don't believe the car has ever miss fired. and my timing i believe can be off.
