Help!! Can't remove oxygen sensor on my 95 Civic
I have a bad oxygen sensor on my 95 Civic EX. I have a new sensor all ready to go in, but I can't get the old sensor out. I have tried soaking it with PB blaster and a number of different "oxygen sensor sockets". But no luck. Now, after wrenching on this thing for so long, the sensor nut is starting to become stripped. I have tried everything I can think of. Are there any mechanic tricks that I can use to get this thing out? If I take it to a shop, is do you think they would be able to do anything for me? I hate to put a lot of money in this car because I am going to be selling it later this summer. I just wanted it to be in good running condition and free of CELs for the new owner.

I just used the correct size closed end wrench ( i think it was a 7/8, forgot) and the extension on my jack, and its out.

only if you have the exhaust manifold off, you can take it to Autozone and they will remove it for free with the 02 sensor socket OR you can go and get it on loan from them

Re: Help!! Can't remove oxygen sensor on my 95 Civic (JDM_Ej)
I've tried most all of these suggestions and all it has given me is an oxygen sensor with nice rounded corners where the nut used to be. I am about ready to drive the damn car into the worst part of town and "accidentally" leave the doors unlocked and the keys in it. I fear that I have rendered it totally unremovable now. My oxygen sensor socket now spins fairly freely on the sensor and I am running out of profanities to yell.

Also, when you say to heat 'er up, do you mean in excess of letting the car run. I have done that, but I haven't taken a torch to it . . . yet!

PB Blaster and Liquid Wrench are FAR superior to WD40</TD></TR></TABLE>
its too bad u cant effectively get to the threads from the outside to actually use PB Blaster.

i have become an extremely huge fan of pb blaster. **** i even keep a can in my trunk in case something comes up.
i had an o2 totally stuck in a manifold. i tried breaker bars and everything. i got it out with a lil pb blaster, an o2 socket, and a 350 ft/lb airgun running 120 or so psi in the line. bad for the gun, good for removing stuck o2 sensors

Not too much if you have anything flamable (PB Blaster, WD 40 etc..) sprayed on the headers etc... unless you want to see it burn

Re: Help!! Can't remove oxygen sensor on my 95 Civic
i dont think heat will work. doesnt metal expand when hot? i made the mistake of trying to take it off when my car was warm. i used a lot of pb blaster but it didnt do much. i broke the sensor half was gone and half was still inside the manifold. had to take the whole thing off and drilled and grinded it down untill it was gone and tried not to mess up the threads. it was a b.

Take the manifold off and use a drill press and drill it out, it will take you about a minute once your in the press. I had to do it on a sensor I broke off in the mani once and it came out like a champ.
Use a bit smaller then the sensor leaving about 1/8 diamater of the shell left inside, then take a chissel and knock the threads in and it will fall right out. Easy as can be......

Its weird that so many people have had so much trouble with this. I took one off my engine which has been sitting around in my back yard for 2 years with no problem.
Then I took the one out of my current car no problem at all. Are you guys using the tool that slips over the wires?? Thats what I used

Try a good pipe wrench. and if that doesn't work drill and tap a new hole right next to it. 2 is better than one right?

Yes, thats the idea.
You heat the nut, not the bolt/joint/sensor, so IT expands and makes it easier to remove *whatever*
Since I got my propane torch I use it all the time
