HELP!!! 96 Ex Automatic Tranny Issue
I have a 96 EX Automatic that has a bad transmission, bought another automatic (supposedly same ex 96-00) tranny from somebody on hondamarketplace but it has a different code and the top rear tranny mount bolt lines up differently. I believe the "wrong" tranny is off a del sol but i'm not sure. The bad tranny's code is something like A4FR (??) and the one i bought is something like S4FR. I know i'm a little off but i'm not at my yard to check. Any help? If it is off a del sol, can i just put on a del sol tranny mount? If not, what are my options? Can I use this tranny or am i stuck buying another?
You guys know you're ish, that's why I came here first....

I know that at least with Mani's, all d series trannys work with any d series block. Auto's I'm not sure. I also saw that an S40 b000 is an Ex/Si and an S40 a000 is the lesser, mpg version in the dx and such.

find out what the transmission code, as long as it came from a '96 - '00 Civic or '96 - '97 Del Sol you can use it. '92 - '95 transmission will bolt up, but will not work due to electrical differences.

Should be the very same case, if it came from a Del Sol you will have to swap out the top transmission mount for the metal bracket on the civic transmission.

Ok, got one in and bolted up, now the torque converter wont turn. Tried turning the crank by way of the crank pulley bolt as usual and no go in either direction. I'm guessing that it's the torque converter not lining up properly, am i wrong?

Sounds like the torque converter wasn't seated properly on the transmission input shaft. Pull the transmission off and rotate the torque converter till you feel it go on the rest of the way.

Yup, you got it. Thanks homes, it's in properly now, didn't get a chance to crank and throw in gear yet but everything is looking good for now.
