help with 95 ex that doesn't want to stay running...:(
So i have my 95 civic coupe ex, with 211k on. I don't know what happened. It seemed like it was running fine, but then all went down from there. It started to sound like a misfire like it was running really shitty. so i was planning on doing a spark plug and wire change, on monday. but i had to drive it to philly and back, with no options. so it was driving pretty good and then my alternator light started coming on and going off, just as i got to philly (from the poconos). Then of course the battery runs out of juice so i had to get it towed back to the poconos. So then i had an huge fight with the alternator, since the alternator bold did not want to come out of the bracket and i had to grind down an open ended wrench to get it to fit into the small space in the alternator bracket and take the whole thing off as one. Now its all said and done, and the new alternator is installed, and start it up, and it sounds like the engine is doing worse. I drove it down the street, and the you could floor it and it just wouldn't move. Like it runs really rough, and just got progressively worse. It drove okish for like a day, and then like i couldn't even get it to do 5 mph going up a hill, and now it will barely start. It wants to start and stuff but it just won't stay runnning. It will start if i press and depress the gas as i start it, but have to continue fluctuating on and off the gas. <br>
Yes the cel is on, and i have changed the spark plug wires (another story), but not the plugs. Now does anybody have any idea what is going on in it??? I took the distributor cap off, and stuff but i don't exactly know what to look for. If someone gave me some info on what to look for or wants pictures please let me know. Thanks so much guys...

Try the ECM, Electronic control module it is in the dizzy, If it is making bad contacts it will run really shitty or not at all, They normaly run around $90-115 depending on the motor. If you do that change the rotor also. good luck....

I will get back to you about the CEL. I tried getting it before and all you have to do is put a jumper wire on that little socket around the kick panel and switch the key to the on position and no code...... Am i doing it wrong???

but could me changing the alternator drastically make my timing off??? because it was running a 7 out of 10 before the alternator blew, and then it was a 3 our of 10 after the alternator went in. I bought a 90 amp alternator for the car.... Could that by any chance make a difference..... I wouldn't think it would...

No the amperage of the Alt. wont make a difference, I have a 130 in my hatch. Check your CEL code. Also did you do cap and rotor when you did the wires?

The story behind the wire job is because i wanted to inspect the spark plugs and two of the spark plug wires like disintegrated when i went to take them out. So i ended up just replacing the wires for now. I want to do the spark plugs but i don't know if i should get the xp-iridium from autolite, the bosch iridium, or bosch platinum....

Make sure you put the plug wires back on in the right order. If they are correct, I would then look into timing. Maybe your timing belt jumped a tooth. ALL this after you pull your CEL and post that up.

Ok so the I tried to take the code but it wan't having it. It has been sitting for like 2 weeks now. and the battery had been disconnected at one point. So i hook up the jumper cable and turn the key to the on position. The light just stays on. So when i take the jumper cable out and turn it to the on position the cel comes on for like 2 seconds and then goes out...
I am going to try and post a video of me trying to start it.
oh and when i turn on the key it makes a little noise for like 2-3 seconds (i think its the fuel pump not sure).... IDK if this will help
oh yeah and i defiitely put the spark plug wires back in the right spot.

I didn't think it would make a difference, but no i did not do the cap and rotor when i did the wires.

I ONLY get NGK plugs... Only... My Hondas have never liked the Autolites or BOSCH. So you do hear the fuel pump priming right? Its a whirring sound, its located under the rear seat. What are the brand of wires? I had some Ractive 9mm that made my car run like garbage, the stock ones were better. I know everyone keeps saying run the code, but if you cant, spend the $20 and d the cap and rotor. Dont buy any after market ones, same deal as the wires. I got the clear cap, cause it looked cool, but all it did was hinder my car. Serious tho, try cap and rotor, it can only help.

The wires are brand new accel, and they were installed after everything was said and done with the alternator. I took the cap off, and didn't really find anything out of the ordinary. the cap looked new, but the actual wires and stuff looked pretty worn, and some of the plastic covers on the electrical connectors were like brownish....

ok so now that I have some time back on my hands I finally did some work o the civic. I replaced the spark plugs, cap, rotor, and wires. Now I got it running, but it is not very pretty. I know i need to change the mounts but i want to get it running good first before i invest more money into it. So it runs very rough, like it will take 4 or 5 starts to get it right. Now the weirdest thing is the one time i got it running and then put seafoam in the induction system and it ran great, almost like normal before the whole alternator stuff. Now then i went to put it in gear and it was running but it lost like all power and didn't want to move almost at all. CAN anybody help???? I will try to get a video uploaded soon.

Ok so I finally figured out I think it was my ecu that is bad. I got another ecu out of the junkyard (totally not the right one), and it ran fine for about 10 mins till it killed the junkyard ecu. Then I looked and the guy who had this ex had a p06 ecu in it. So I wasn't even getting vtec. So now I am looking for a p28 ecu... Anyone have one for an auto????

well I somehow did. because it was running fine for like 10 mins and every so often I would rev it a little to see if there was any abnormalities and then it just stopped when it was idling. I tried starting it again and no good. Then I unplugged the ecu and noticed the smell. Now when I took it apart the capacitor blew up or something because there is a burn mark on the case and on the board.
