Default Help with 93 civic speedometer. (not a vss)

Alright i've got a 93 honda civic ex, 5 speed transmission.

I'm having issues with the speedometer. Randomly one day while driving on the highway the speedometer stopped working. Once in a great great while it'll read for a few seconds then just go right back to 0. I swapped in a different VSS and it still didn't work. I sprayed electric cleaner in the plugs and it still doesn't work.

Anyone have any other suggestions??

Is code 17 (VSS circuit) thrown?

It is thrown when you de-acellerate in gear. Say you drop from 3k to 2k rpm, it will throw the code.

Check the VSS signal wire for a short. It's a Yel/Wht wire at the VSS plug and changes to a Yel/Blu wire as it runs to the ECU, speedo, and cruise control.

So check it from the VSS to the ECU first, then continue on?

Car does not have cruise control anymore.

Start here: Unplug only the VSS connector and test the Yel/Wht wire terminal in the connector for resistance (Ohms) to body ground using a digital multimeter.

Maybe the short is in the disconnected cc wire.

If there's no short, then you should measure high resistance, probably less than 10 Ohms.

i have seen millions of times where the pins at the vss plug get coroded, and does not make contact... the tab on the pins will fall off... thats usually where i start..

if that's the case, where can i get a new plug/wires??

as far as the cc wire, i believe the wires were just cut and left.

just go to pick a part and swipe a plug with enough wire to solder back together.. i guess the cruise control one would be as easy as repairing what is cut...
