If theres metal shavings in the tranny oil, that means gears are grinding. It is possible that one of the synchros is broken or quite possibly a gear itself. Is your shift linkage set up correctly?

i did the gsr swap 2 years ago. when doin the shift linkage it fit fine on the gsr but putting it into the ls is when i started to have problems. we just put the tranny in tonight. wondering if i should get the gsr back? when driving and starting off it feels like im starting off in 3rd gear when in 1st. i have never driven a ls so is it suppose to do that?

The limited slip tranny will create a "lag" feeling, but it is a great tranny though. What concerns me is the fact that you are having a very difficult time switching gears and the metal shavings. When you break a syncro and grind gear teeth down, those are the symptoms. With gear teeth however, you will be able to shift gears but the car wont engage the gear/move anywhere. However, the synchros, if broken, will not allow you to engage a gear at all.

That would deffinatly be a ground up gear. That is the symptom you get when you have ground the gear teeth down. Try taken the tranny apart and replacing the gear, maybe you even have a broken synchro?

its goin into gear. see that was the problem with the gsr tranny the shop i took it to messed up the 2nd gear syncro. my brother now has the civic and wanted a ls tranny. he feels that its just not moving, in 1st and feels like its in 3rd when taking off. he told me that the tranny fluid was older than dirt. im lost at what i should do!

I would honestly take the tranny off the car and look at it myself. You can't always trust what pople tell you about the stuff you buy. It's possible that the syncro is broken.

he saying that it is lagging
not saying it grinds, wont go in gear, pops out she is saying it is lagging.
do u not undersatnd.
why would u advise to take the tranny apart.
if its a synchro it would grind not feel slugish

The gear can grind causing metal shavings in the tranny oil like she described. If it is sluggish, it can be caused by a bad synchro as well. I am not a tranny expert, but it is one of the two.
