Default Heater blower not working

Hello everyone,

I'm working on a 98 Civic EX and blower stopped working suddenly. I was doing a coolant flush and had the heat on max. Next day when I started it up there was no air blowing.

I did the following:
- tested blower motor directly and it works
- replaced resistor, but it didn't make difference
- checked (and replaced) the fuse under dash, nothing
- replaced relay under the hood, nothing

Last night I tried it again randomly and it worked until I turned off the car. When i turned it back on it wasn't working any more.

Any suggestions what else to check?

Test the relay.

The problem is intermittent, so you probably haven't actually ruled out the blower motor with your test. You may want to redo that test multiple times.

Also check whether the hood and dash fuses for the blower motor are loose. You can gently and slightly twist the prongs to tighten.

Another possibility is the switch.

Just a guess: maybe there's air trapped in the heater core?
Flushing it directly may help:

How would air in the system affect the blower motor?

I've tried the motor few times, started right up every time.

Also checked the fuses, made sure they're snug. Tried putting a different/spare fuse to test.

What switch are you referring to?

Specify the fuse numbers you are referring to or post pictures.

What switch are you referring to?
For the blower.

Two fuses are required for the blower motor because it is controlled by a relay. The relay requires two power and ground sources - for the relay switch and for the switch activator.

So the two fuses you're referring to are #17 under dash and the 40A one under hood?

I had that problem with my 93 del sol. The blower would work initially but after running a while it would stop. If you immediately went under the hood and touched the blower relay you would burn your fingers as soon as you touched the relay. The relay is good it's just that it overheated because the blower is drawing too much current. When you go under the dash, remove the glove compartment and drop the blower motor. Look at the factory wire connection to the blower motor and you may see a lot of corrosion on the heavy gauge wire just behind the connector. This is a big short that happens after the motor runs a while and heats up the connection. I replace the blower motor with one from autozone and did a hard wire connection and got rid of the factory connector.
A lot of water/condensation collects in that area and settles right on that connector since it's a horizontal surface.

That's why i prefaced with " Just a guess"
I think I got tripped up on the OP's ttile: Heater blower not working.Obviously, the blower motor works to push heat, A/C and outside air.. sorry for my ignorance.

I'll double check those connectors....

Figured I'll update this thread...

I found out what the problem was. Took out the fan switch and found out one of the pins in the back of it where wires connect was bent. Not sure how the hell the blower worked at all

Thanks reporting the solution. Maybe it will help others that encounter a similar issue.
