Heat wrap vs. heat shields (searched)
My heat shields rattle. Crazy rattling. To the point where tinkering and tightening is not fixing it.
My question:
Is using heat wrap a safe, viable alternative to stock heat shields in areas of my exhaust where there are heat shields?

My old car actually did this, horrible rattling. Wrapped the stock manifold, and it was all better.
I noticed no ill effects, however I didnt check temps differences or anything. So i cannot say for sure if anything changed, besides the rattle.
I would say go for it.

I believe heat wrap is not recommended for a DD since it makes it rust out faster and I believe it makes it more prone to cracking.
Theoretically, keeping the header/turbo manifold hotter increases the speed of sound and improves performance by increasing exhaust velocity. On a car that's strictly a DD, I wouldn't bother unless it's turbo, and that's just to keep engine bay temps down.
I've ran manifolds and headers without heat shields or wrap. Nothing bad happens.

I wanted to get a benen headsheild but I dont really think its very functional its a very thin peice of aluminum as opposed to the heat wrap i think the heat wrap is a good ideal except for people say they make them crack faster because of trapped moisture... and also because it doesnt allow the header to cool when its suppose to

a little bit of topic but a god insight.
A team in a uk motorsport championship used an EP3 civic type r it was an endurance race and they actually found they could not fill their tank full of petrol meaning more stops.
they ended up double heat wrapping the exhuast and this meant they kept the temperature down so much so that they were able to fit another 2 litres of fuel into the civic's tank.
i have only heard good things about heat wrap in motorsport.
but on the road i have heard the opposite its great but on the roads here in the uk most people's exhuast's crack as the the heat tape stays wet and simply rusts and then cracks.

Re: Heat wrap vs. heat shields (searched)
Yeah, the car has a B18 turbo. I wasn't actually planning on wrapping the exhaust manifold, just the sections of exhaust pipe that are underneath heat shields. Only for fire safety reasons; not really concerned with rust on this pipe. Car is a weekend warrior so it's not driven daily, I just can't stand those rattles and they're rather embarrassing.
Wondering if people just took stock heat shields off and don't use heat wrap? Any issues?

I took my heat shields off because they were rattling. nothing changed except it didnt rattle anymore. This is the header and piping around the trunk

You could also have the manifold/pieces ceramic or thermal coated as well. It's not nearly as inexpensive as header wrap, but it's very effective, doesn't trap moisture, looks way nicer, and actually protects against corrosion.

just remove it and dont touch it after driving as u would anyway

Funny thing.... I actually replaced my $25 fart can with a vibrant muffler and the rattles are gone. That's the last thing I thought it would have been.
