Default Heat coming through eBrake/Armrest EJ8

Hi,

I have a 2000 Civic ex Coupe.
During long drives/after the car has been running for a while, I get a significant amount of heat coming out by the armrest where the ebrake is.

What could cause this? Is it normal?

All that is under neath is metal so could it just be the exhaust warming?

Thanks

exhaust is right under there, make sure your boot is covering the shifter hole under your plastics

I believe it is, but even if i'm driving with the windows down I can still feel the heat.
Should I be concerned at all? Any way to 'cover' it up?

Is the heat shield over your cat in place?

I believe so, I don't have a cat so i bought a cat-->muffler off of craigslist so ill double check while i'm installing it.

When I had the tranny changed and was under the car, I think i did see it

Even if the heatshields are there, with an exhaust leak you might have some extra heat coming there. Have you looked under to see if you notice one?
