Headliner replacement
I need to replace the headliner in my 96' EK coupe.. How can I do this? Is there a board that the headliner is glued to? Mine is sagging and I'm slowly but surely converting the interior to black, so I want to go ahead and get black headliner now. I've pretty much got it ready to pull out as well. Is this something I can go buy fabric, trace and cut and glue it in or whatever?

Yes you can do it yourself. Remove sun visors, remove grab handles, manual says remove rearview mirror but now sure if its necessary. The headliner is clipped in (I think some are directional?). Get whatever fabric you want. Use a spray adhesive that either says its specifically for vehicle headliners or another high strength fabric type. There are 2 DIY's floating around here I think- one in the appearance forum and one somewhere else.

You definitely need to remove the mirror. 6th gens mount on the roof, 5th gens mount on the glass.
Some fabric glues aren't for use for headliners. Autozone sells headliner spray adhesive.
If you wanted to replace the entire headliner, the new one (or used) comes on the board. You don't peel the fabric off the board.

Re: (NOFX)
I just did this in my civic eg, ill take some pictures and post. Its really not hard to do at all, just get the original headliner out. Head up to a fabric store (handcocks in newport news va is where I went) they have fabric specifically for headliners.
I used this 3m glue spray can, apply it to both sides, let it sit for 30 seconds and then stick them together. Once the head liner is all down take a razor and cut the edges and fold them back, did the same for the sunroof. Came out PERFECT and looks better then stock since its black. While I was at it i covered the side pillers with black fabric aswell. let me know if you have any questions.
good luck!

Here's a link to a headliner thread I started. It should help a lot

I can't think of what models it was, but some cars do come with felt covered interior pillars. I know I didn't like it. They also gather dust, which sticks to them.

I wouldn't know, I never own a car long enough to gather dust

I'll be attempting this probably sometime this weekend. I'll post my progress/results. I'll probably just get the fabric from Wal*Mart or something, hopefully it holds up.

it is really easy i did it to my 96 civic lx 3 weeks ago. i went on ebay and got a role of vinyl and used expencive adhesive that i got at l&m. you can get it at wallmart also and it holds up wonderfull. they have lots of colors to choose from and if they don't have the one you are looking for but duplicolor vinyl and faboric paint and it comes out really nice. the only thing that kinda sucked is putting the plastic peace that is connected to the seatbelt back on

Well I've got the whole car pretty much stripped because I've been painting the interior panels. The headliner is pretty much ready to come out, so it should be a pretty easy job. All I've got to do is take the mirror, "oh **** handle", and dome light out basically. I'm also going with black. Probably more of a flat black so it can match my Del Sol seats that I painted with Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric paint.

Well I've got the headliner board out and the old fabric stripped. I broke the sun visor clip thingys, so it'll be interesting getting everything back together. Just waiting on my girlfriend then we're going to go get some adhesive and fabric.

Eh, didn't turn out as great as I had hoped it would, but it's much better then the sagging and dirty *** grey liner I had before.
Oh yeah I only spent $15 as well. I don't think I was patient enough with the glue to dry. Oh well. I'll try and get pictures sometime.
