Default Headin to the junkyard - what steering racks fit my 95 Civic?

I am through with this power steering rack, we put it in in class and it burnt up thanks to some gremlin biting holes in the seals and lines. I like how a manual steer feels on the road. I have been looking around here and trying to decide which cars to look out for to pull a manual steering rack. I have heard of people taking a power rack and running a hose from the pressure lines? I have a 95 DX sedan and I am under the impression that any civic 92-95 will fit? If there are anymore gens or anything that will work as well, it'd be a lot of help!

Thanks,
thenext

What you will need is a manual steering rack and tie rods from a 92 to 95 civic or del sol. I believe you will also the joint from the steering shaft to the rack, and you will also need the subframe from a manual steering car. I think there is some way to get the manual rack to work on the powering rack subframe, but i don't recall how.

I don't have any welding equipment. Does that power-to-manual steering gear modification work? I'm almost thinking it would almost make more sense to do it that way.

No welding needed. The gear portion unbolts and slips off. Read the faqs but I dont think the subframes differ, at least when I did my 96 civic I didn't touch the subframe.

It does, but you need all the lines and the reservoir from a '94 - '97 Integra (you can reuse your old pump though). It does have a quicker ratio so it's fewer turns lock to lock

As far as swapping a manual rack you need one from a '92 - '95 Civic, you'll need the universal joint that connects to the steering column and the subframe (you can use a power subframe, but you'll need to wrap the bushing on the passenger's side of the rack with something to make it larger)

Thanks guys, lot's of good info! It is good to know an Integra would fit, those seem to be a little bit more common around here than Civics. I have already pulled out my pump and lines, I don't plan on reconnecting any of it. I want to do this to it if i find a power one: http://www.hondacivicforum.com/forum...0-civic-81749/ And if I find a manual one, I will probably take up the subframe just for good measure.

Yes, that bushing. I'd just grab the rack and subframe though. The subframe is only held on with 6 or 8 bolts, they're not hard to change, just heavy.

I hope this helps someone if they are searching. If you want to get the rack out without dropping the subframe. After getting your rack disconnected from the pressure fittings and the 2x14mm 2x17mm bolts:
1. Take off the drivers tierod end
2. Drop the exhaust from the mani on back and pull it from the hangers
3. Put the U-joint back on the rack and turn it all the way to the passenger side
push the rack toward the right
4. You should now have enough clearance to push the rack all the way to the right and the drivers side will drop down and you can pop it right out!

How's this look guys? I looped these two together with some hella tight hose clamps and crimped off/soldered the other one.
