headgasket oil leak?
I have a 2000 civic si and i think my headgasket is leaking oil from the front passenger side by the distributor. What could have caused this?

Re: headgasket oil leak? (hotdoggies)
Normally doesnt, check your cam seal, valve cover, VTEC Solenoid gasket first. A headgasket leak is very uncommon. If it was leaking bad you would most likely notice a loss in coolant. Before you replace the headgasket, do a compression check first. If it passes start replacing the other gaskets. I have a leak now, and searching led me to a lot of pictures, and I have narrowed it down. If you are running FI you could have "head lift" which is more common in D-Series though.

Re: headgasket oil leak? (Rev2Eight_EM1)
Well i was thinking about it could be sumthing else. Looks like the oil is coming from underneath the distributor down. Any ideas? If it is the cam seal is that hard to replace? What else could it be. Iam running ctr pistons.

cam seal, distributor o ring, valve cover gasket(especially arond distributor and cam seal: i have same problem) vtec gasket( i changed this, now i think it is cam seal).
CLEAN the engine thoroughly, go on a spirited short drive, pop hood and inspect. I've done this several times and it still looks like its coming from head gasket, but no water. what the f!@#.
what type of engine? what is this head lift thing?

start right there, its prolly the easiest thing to do and the most commonly overlooked problem, its three bolts and a very short amount of time to fix, if you dont know what it is, its the o ring on the dizzy(the part that slides into the cam) and its about as big around as a quarter

the cam seal is on the timing belt side. You mean CAM PLUG. Miniscule difference I know and I don't mean to be a dick by pointing this out, but if he goes to the dealer and asks for the cam seal he won't get the right part.

cam plug is the one on the vtec selenoid side of the engine, closest to you looking at the engine. Thats where it is. I picked mine up from robearracing.com for 15 bucks shipped and has 3 rings instead of just one, like on the OEM one. Thats where MY leak is from.

I have the same leak too on my b16a, I just replaced the head gasket, and it still leaks, and it still appears to be coming from the head gasket area. Could I just put copper sealant on the head gasket or something? I really want to get this figured out.

clean the head off above the gasket and wipe it down really really good so it is not slippery or anything, then drive around and feel that spot. It should give you a better idea as to what the problem is. it is not a headgasket either! that should be the very LAST thing you do.
