Header won't bolt up to magnaflow cat. help!
here is my exhaust setup uninstalled:
kamikaze header with 2.5" downpipe, magnaflow 2.5" cat, 2.5" kteller bolt up exhaust piping, and magnaflow muffler.
So I went to the exhaust shop today to have it all installed and the problem we ran into was the down pipe from the header doesnt hook up to the cat. To me it looks like the way kamikaze made the down pipe is the reason why it wont work. does anyone know of a header that will hook up to a 2.5" magnaflow cat? Is there any other headers with 2.5" downpipes? this really sucks. any help would be appreciated.

Can you elaborate on the actual problem you're experiencing, and why it "doesn't hook up"? A competent muffler shop shouldn't have any problems connecting the header to the cat.

Re: Header won't bolt up to magnaflow cat. help! (Padawan)
lets see...how can I explain...
well, at the end of the downpipe there is the flange and then it has about 1 more inch of piping. so when I go to hook the exhaust pipe with the downpipe they cant slide together because of the rest of the downpipe. so there is about an inch inbetween the flanges. hope this makes sense.

sounds like you can use longer bolts.... there is about 1" between the flanges of a oem cat and header. maybe you need a gasket btwn the header and the cat??

Re: Header won't bolt up to magnaflow cat. help! (dantastic)
maybe there isn't anything wrong with it and the exhaust guys were just dumb?
^the only thing I see is the cat is like "flared" out at the ends and the downpipe is just strait. wouldn't it leak?

What you're describing sounds like a typical donut "flex joint" -- the same type of joint found on the stock manifold and all bolt-on replacement Honda headers. You are supposed to install a graphite donut gasket over the end of the collector, and your cat should have a flared flange that can bolt to the header.

so basically, that 1'' space should have a graphite donut gasket and then I would need longer bolts? because the end of the cat is flared out. do I need to buy a graphite donut gasket separet? or would I just use the stock one?

Yeah...I think you got it there. Ive been to some muffler shops that dont carry the size you will need....so figure out which donut you need then go buy it before you head back to another muff shop.

I don't think your stock one will work because it isn't 2.5". You'll have to buy a new one, but they aren't that expensive, like under $10 at a parts store.

I also have another question... Is my header going to be able to bolt up with the stock gasket?

looks like you need to flare the end of the cat facing the header, get a "donut" gasket for a JDM 2.5" header, and get some longer bolts
you can probably re-use ur header gasket at the head. you can find the 2.5" gasket at those JDM stores like jhpusa.com

Re: (dantastic)
but the cat is flared isn't it? (the one on the left) the downpipe is the one on the right and the flange is welded in place. the one on the cat isnt.

Re: (Civiapt)
Did you get the header with the 2-1/2" collector or the usdm 2"?
ANyway, for whatever reason, Kamikaze has way too much tubing sticking past the flange, even with a donut it won't work. You must cut the tubing shorter, about 5/8" should go past the end of the flange, then the donut will work.
